The Draft
The Atlanta Hawks made three selections in the 2019 NBA Draft after trading away another three picks. Atlanta picked at 4, 10, and 34 in the draft. With the fourth pick, the Hawks took the forward out of Virginia, De'Andre Hunter. Using the 10th and 34 picks, Atlanta chose fan favorite Cam Reddish and Bruno Fernando, respectively.
Hunter was a safe choice. His body is already close to NBA ready and he will be a seamless fit after the departure of Taurean Prince.
Reddish was a true wild card coming into the draft which was likely the reason he slipped all the way to the Hawks. He was consistently ranked in the top five of most teams' draft boards.
Evan Turner
After being the featured piece of trade talks for the past couple seasons, Kent Bazemore was finally shipped out of town. He was sent to the Portland Trailblazers for the 30-year-old point-forward Evan Turner.
Last season, Turner averaged 6.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists across 73 games for the Blazers.
Chandler Parsons
The Hawks made another move in the realm of trades this offseason. The team acquired Chandler Parsons in exchange for Miles Plumlee and recently added Soloman Hill. Atlanta will be happy to get Plumlee's bloated contract off the books for next year.
Parsons is likely to play a major role alongside the young Hawks. After having multiple injury-riddled seasons in a row, he should see this as an opportunity to reestablish value on the court.
Dewayne Dedmon
Dedmon agreed to a three-year $41 million deal with the Sacramento Kings shortly after the free-agency period began.
This will go down as one of the most underrated moves of the offseason. Dedmon was a critical force in Atlanta's frontcourt last season and easily the strongest interior defender. Bruno Fernando may be pressed into action before he is ready and John Collins cannot hold down the interior defense by himself.
The Kings have quietly put together a nice offseason and Dedmon addressed one of their most pressing needs.
Charlie Brown Jr.
Yes, the Atlanta Hawks employ a player with the name Charlie Brown.
When asked after his first summer league game if all the attention and memes of his name get to him he said: "No way, they are awesome!"
He is more than just a name though. After going undrafted, the Hawks saw the potential with Brown. He has already signed a contract to be Atlanta's first of a pair of two-way players next season.
