This should really be a no-brainer at this point.
Recently America has gathered around their TV’s to watch the Presidential debates. Clinton and Trump went head to head on America’s most important issues, Hillary’s emails, Bill’s infidelity, and whether or not everything (including my dog’s IBS) can be blamed on Hillary Clinton. I mean, Trump sounded like a father telling his daughter she couldn’t get her belly button pierced. Excuse me, Mr. Trump, Secretary Clinton is not you inferior, she is the woman who is going to beat you in the Presidential Election. I’m not just saying that because I am a huge Hillary supporter. I am saying that because if we look at how Presidential Elections have been ran in the past, and with an intense assessment of our current political climate, Clinton is the best choice for America.
This is not a battle of the “lesser of two evils”. Say what you wish about politicians being evil or corrupt, but no one goes into politics to make a living for themselves. No one is a Public Defender, or a Guardian Ad Litem because they are in it for the money, being a public lawyer means being a public servant. Clinton worked with radicals and child advocates in the seventies, and, though everyone hopes for their success, the trajectory of her career could not have been predicted when she was twenty-two and starting at Yale. Secretary Clinton has been a dedicated public servant for nearly fifty years, and yeah she made some mistakes, but that does not disqualify her from being our most qualified Presidential candidate to date. Donald Trump has not paid his Federal Income tax in decades, and he said that was good practice! He is literally stealing money out of our pockets and using it for himself. That is money that my grandparents use for medicare, that is money that our veterans use at VA hospitals, that low-income families use for groceries. He has not been a fruitful member of our great nation. If Trump wants to make America great again, he needs to first start with himself. He needs to ensure that he is abiding by the laws of our country before he moves on to the Oval Office, the Supreme Court, Congress, the Senate.
If you vote for Trump, Johnson, Stein, you are voting for a lesser nation. You are voting for racism, bigotry, and for injustice. Trump stated that he wanted to bring back stop and frisk, deport people because they are in gangs, and had to policy that he would bring forward about this. Trump is not striving for a restorative America. He even insinuated that all of the recent shootings in Chicago are Obama’s fault, and did not bring forward any proposed changes. Mr. Trump kept bringing up how he wanted more Law and Order, and I do too, but I think that the Tuesday marathons they have on USA Network are enough, and if Trump was in charge of Law and Order he would probably fire Ice-T.
As the debate went on Lester Holt would ask a question about the racial climate in America, and Trump dodged the question and blamed Clinton for the rumors that Obama was not an American citizen. Clinton followed up by saying “Well, listen to what you heard.” That phrase is all that you need to take away from Monday’s debate. I am sick to my stomach watching it for the second time as I write this article that there are people out there who hear this hate and disgust and truly believe that Trump can serve America in a positive capacity. If you are a woman, a person of color, on the LGBTQA+ spectrum, or of any minority group, you will be under attack for the next four years if you do not vote for Hillary Clinton. You will be allowing a manic man choose how your body is treated for four years. To be candid, I am scared. I am frightened for what the next four years will look like if Trump wins. That is why we must use our votes down the ballot. Local elections are more important than ever because they are our only resistance to a Trump presidency. I am disgusted and saddened that our country is even considering this. If you are undecided, think of your daughters, your wives, the guy who works at the bodega down the street, and consider how their lives will be negatively impacted if Trump wins. Come November, consider what Michelle Obama said in her DNC address, “Our words and actions matter”. Trump’s words and actions are what define him as a candidate, and yet he was still on that stage next to Clinton. Our words and actions matter, when we are at the polls checking boxes for the world that our children will one day live in. When they ask us who they voted for, we better be able to say, Hillary Clinton, because I don’t want to know what will happen to America otherwise.
