Transitioning into college isn't always easy. Especially if you fall victim to the awkwardness that is having to branch out of your comfort zone and meet people on your campus by yourself. Luckily for most women there's the opportunity to participate in Sorority Recruitment. Although it's different at every campus, the goal is the same: to find a group of likeminded women that share the same values as you whose goal is to support you throughout your college years and after. Becoming a part of the Kappa Kappa Gamma women's fraternity was the best decision I've made in college thus far. The women in this organization are some of the best people I've ever met. Our motto for Kappa is Aspire To Be, an open ended motto that articulates the endless opportunities that Kappa can lead you to. Here's what it means to me...
1. We Aspire To Be leaders...
Kappa pushes you to reach your greatest potentials. Not only does it give you endless leadership opportunities but also it offers 307 alumnae associations across the United States and Canada to give you the opportunity to network with women across the country.
2. We Aspire To Be scholars...
Since we are an organization of undergraduate women school always comes first. No matter what the obligations are within the chapter, Kappa acknowledges that we are here first and foremost as academics and push us to do our best in both class and community.
3. We Aspire To Be active members of the community...
As a social organization we recognize the importance of philanthropy and spend a majority of our time raising funds for both our national philanthropy and local ones as well. We invest our time not only by raising funds but also by working face to face with our community. We are giving back to those who give us so much.
4. We Aspire To Be authentic, better versions of ourselves...
The saying "my letters don't make me better than you, they make me better than I used to be" is 100% accurate. My sisters push me to be a better version of myself everyday. These women accept me for who I am, faults and all. They show me that it's ok not to be perfect and instead I should push myself to be the best that I can be. They're the ones that hold me accountable for my actions, they are my shoulder to cry on, and they are the ones that pick me up when I fall. Sisters are unlike other friends because they're the ones you get to choose. They are the ones that share the same values as you. The ones that are your friends not only for your collegiate years, but for the rest of your life. These are the women that you laugh with and cry with, the women that you want to call as soon as something happens, both good and bad. These women are family.
Once I found my home in Kappa Kappa Gamma my life was forever changed for the better. I found the place I belong. I am a piece of a puzzle that fits perfectly with those around me to form a bigger more beautiful picture.
