I Asked 50 Young People How They Feel About Donald Trump
Business Insider

As young people, our opinions, and willingness to act on them, are imperative in deciding who the next President will be. In honor of Trump becoming the official nominee of the Republican Party, I decided to ask 50 young people why they would or would not be voting for Donald Trump in the upcoming election. Here's what they said:

1. “I will NOT be voting for Donald Trump because of the way he views women and supports violence at his rallies. I don't agree with anything he believes in and if he wins, he will create a detrimental impact on not only our country, but the world as well.” –Salome, 18

2. "I will not vote for Donald Trump because I want a leader who respects all people and will not make irrational comments or decisions that could jeopardize America's safety.” –Kelly, 19

3. “I am not voting for Donald Trump because I don't want the children of America to see him as a role model.” –Duncan, 19

4. “I'm not voting for Donald Trump because I have younger twin sisters, and may one day have a daughter, and I will never vote for a man to lead this country and for a man that my sisters or daughter will look up to as the most powerful man in the world, when he treats women the way that he does.” –Sam, 20

5. “He's a racist.” –Derek, 19

6. “I’m not voting for him because of the shape his mouth makes when he talks for more than 12 seconds.” –Danielle, 19

7. “Hilary Clinton is part of the same corrupt government that just gave us the weakest recovery from an economic depression in the history of the United States. She collects money from organizations that are against everything she says about gay rights and women’s rights. As Secretary of State she was quoted as being “extremely careless” with some of the country’s most classified information while using an illegal private email server. I’m voting for Trump not because I think he’ll be good, but because I don’t want a criminal running my country.” –Colton, 19

8. “That racist, ignorant, asshole Donald Trump is the most terrifying monstrosity to happen to America.” –Marissa, 18

9. “I don’t want the outstanding representative of my country to be someone known for belittling, bullying, and attempting to take away the rights of people of different religion, race, background, and physical capability than himself. Trump calls groups out under absurd pretenses and attempts to take away their rights as Americans. I’m in a group of middle-class, female college students. What if my group is next? It seems ridiculous, but I thought the idea of him getting this far was pretty ridiculous too.” –Ivy, 19

10. "I'm not voting for Donald Trump because I don't think a racist, sexist, and bigoted man is the person that I want to lead our country in this turbulent time."-Meredith, 20

11. “I don’t support Donald Trump because he is a liar, fraud, big mouth, and most of all because he is racist!” –Kyle, 19

12. “One of the reasons why I am not positive on who I am voting for is because both candidates are so flawed. Donald Trump's arrogance is often unattractive and discriminative, yet Hillary Clinton has views that I don't believe in morally and her past actions make it hard for me to trust her future actions.” –Freddy, 19

13. “I’m not voting for Donald Trump. Just because he's a shithead doesn't mean I need to be a shithead too.” –Isabella, 19

14. “I'm not voting for Trump [or Hilldog] because I think that [s]he's manipulative and I value honesty highly in a candidate.” –Gus, 19

15. “I will not be voting for Donald Trump because his xenophobic, racist, and misogynistic points of view betray the ideals this country was founded on.”-Bailey, 19

16. “I can't vote for Donald trump because I don't want him to get more money by winning his bet with Warren Buffett that he can make it to the office.” –David, 20

17. “It is a difficult decision to choose between a bigot and a criminal. How can we trust the bigots will compromise for the better of the country? How can we trust the criminals to be honest? Our founding fathers warned us that a two party system was "the greatest political evil under our Constitution," now look at the chaos we are stuck with.” –Ashley, 27

18. “A woman who is dedicated to serving others belongs in the White House; however, a man who serves only himself should never reside in the oval office.” –Thomas, 19

19. “I'm not voting for Donald Trump because I respect and am proud of who I am, which is an intelligent and hard-working woman.” –Lauren, 20

20. “If he can't even improve his hairstyle, how is he going to improve America?”–Meg, 20

21. “Both of the major party candidates are shit; feel the Johnson.” –Charles, 20

22. “Well, Russia has Vladimir Putin and we have Donald Trump... Which doesn't seem to scare people but it should.” –Ximena, 19

23. “I’m not voting for him because he’s not a republican and he’s certifiably insane.”-Chase, 19

24. “I’m a republican but I can’t stand Trump. I’m voting for Governor Gary Johnson. I know that a vote for Johnson is a de facto vote for Clinton, but I don’t care. I don’t want to see Trump in the White House.” –Courtney, 22

25. “I’m not voting for Trump because I think his election would undo some of the positive social change we’ve made recently.” –Logan, 22

26. “I’m not voting for Donald Trump because I'm Mexican.” –JP, 20

27. “The main reason I am not voting for Donald Trump is because he is an ignorant person who does not recognize how beneficial immigrants are to our nation. –Alyssa, 19

28. “I’m voting for Donald Trump because I will never stand with her.” –Alissa, 18

29. “I'm voting for Donald Trump because he's not Hillary Clinton and has a better chance at winning the presidency than the Libertarian candidate.” –Drew, 19

30. “I'm not voting for Trump because this is my first opportunity to vote in a presidential election, and I don't want it to be my last.”–Kate, 19

31. “I'm voting for Trump because Hilary's the biggest lying puppet I've seen in a presidential candidate and because voting for Johnson will only aid her win (and because our votes don't truly count, ~they~ decided who would win a long time ago).” –Taylor, 18

32. “I'm not voting for Donald Trump because I want the United States of America to continue to exist.” –Nina, 19

33. “I'm voting for Trump because unlike Hilary at least I know what I'm getting when I'm voting for him.” –Andrew, 19

34. “Some people hate Clinton and some people hate Trump. All I know for sure is that I hate Christian Laettner, just like everyone else.” –Chas, 21

35. “I will only vote for Trump if he releases a video of him jumping into a vault pool of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.” –David, 19

36. “I refuse to vote for an uninformed idiot” –Lav, 20

37. “I am not voting for Donald Trump because there have been too many people in American History who have sacrificed everything in order to make this country diverse, accepting and welcoming. I'm not gonna support one man's mission to destroy everything they worked for. Also he just seems like he smells weird.”–Joel, 19

38. “We shouldn't have an ill-tempered bigot running a country that is built up on diversity. We shouldn't have a president who invites foreign nations to get involved in our elections.” -Lauren, 20

39. “I'm not voting for Donald Trump because I don't trust people who wear toupees.”–Lexi, 20

40. “I will not be voting for Donald Trump because the amount of time he spends discussing business affairs of the nation could be spent combatting his own inadequacy in understanding the immensely complex social, mental, and economic states of immigrants, foreign individuals, and the poor.” –Dana, 20

41. “Although Trump and I both went to the same school (UPenn), he does not share the same values I have been taught and that I would want to see in a leader.”-Stefano, 19

42. "How could you trust a man who yelled at a crying baby to handle sensitive diplomatic situations?" –Susan, 19

43. "I will not be voting for Donald trump in the presidential election because we cannot have a president that has become a symbol of hate, fear, and disdain. He inspires these characteristics into the minds of US citizens and already has created uproars of discrimination, of all kinds, within our country. No matter any potential viability in his policies, his abrasiveness and mud-slinging should not be perceived as a sign of a strong leader, but rather the sign of a fearful and unstable demagogue who will be at the head of the most powerful nation in the world." -Scott, 19

44. “I am not voting for Trump because I do not respect or agree with his views on immigration amongst other issues.” –Amelie, 20

45. “Trump is a xenophobic orange buffoon, and his candidacy is an insult to our country and its inhabitants; if there is a silver lining, it is a crystallization of the issues facing the garbage dump we call the Republican Party.” –Sam, 22

46. “I'll never support someone that encourages his/her supporters to bully a fellow human being that is different than they are in race, gender or personal beliefs.”–Maggie, 19

47. “I believe in equity between all people regardless of race, class, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or able-bodiedness, and Trump will move us farther away from that goal, which is why I am voting for Hillary because no vote is a vote for Trump.” –Faith, 22

48. “I don't support Trump because I feel like my vote is better spent writing in Paul Ryan in the hopes that he runs in the next election period.” –Will, 21

49. “I'm not voting for Donald Trump because I think he's a perversion of the American Dream and his lack of respect for women and minorities is perpetuated by his denial of bigoted and hateful statements that he's made in the past.” –Ally, 21

50. “I’m not voting for Donald Trump because I refuse to support a candidate whose campaign is based on the idea that America needs his help to become great. I’m not voting for Donald Trump because he’s a little too comfy with the white supremacist movement. I’m not voting for Donald Trump because he will never have thick enough skin to be trusted as the Commander in Chief of the largest military in the world. I’m not voting for Donald Trump because he hijacked the Republican Party and no one seems to mind. I’m not voting for Donald Trump because I could never support a man who jokes about sleeping with his own daughter. I’m not voting for Donald Trump because a man who honestly didn’t know that Russia had invaded the Ukraine cannot be trusted as our nation’s foremost policy advisor. I’m not voting for Donald Trump because he has consistently proved that he will never be able to respect his constituents, his country, or the power that he holds.” –Ellen, 19

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
