Everyone knows the phrase "It's not goodbye, it's see you later." This is what people say when life is changing and they don't want to think about all the big changes that are about to happen in life. Over the last couple of weeks, my life has changed in a huge way.
I will be leaving a lot of things behind in the next few months and moving forward with my life. I'm not the only one going through these changes. Every semester people change majors, schools or stop playing the sport they love. Getting an internship and having multiple jobs is a normal transition into adulthood for college students. Roommates will change and you'll get close with new people. Life is always changing, but here are some things that never will.
The memories will always be there. You can always go back to your friends and spend some time together. Things will be just the way you left them. You can always count on your friends to give you a place to get away from life for awhile and be willing to take you out for the night for old time sake.
That team that you love more than anything in the world will forever be in your heart. These people will be there for you no matter what. You can call these people in 10 years and they will still help you through whatever you're going through because they're as much your family as the people you lived in a house with for 18 years.
Looking back, the time you spent in your spot will be something you cherish and tell your grandchildren a million times until they can quote every one of your stories and no longer listen while you remember the old days. This sport is what taught you some of the most important lessons in life and you'll forever be grateful and in debt to the coaches that helped you grow.
That person that took you in while you were away at school will never leave you to fend for yourself. Whether it be that you change majors or move schools, they will always be there to listen and help take care of you. This is the part of my move that tears me apart. Leaving everyone in the Mass Communication department at OCU will break my heart over and over but I know that I can always come home to these wonderful people.
It kills me not taking another Wendy class while I'm in college but now I have something better, I have a person who will always be excited when I come back to visit and be in my corner no matter what. This woman has made all this difference in my life. So the saying was right: It's not goodbye, it's see you later. All that I can do now is look forward on this journey life is about to take me on.
