Fatimah Warner, or better known as her stage name Noname, debuted her first album this year. Born on September 18, 1991, and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she has been rapping and performing slam poetry since 2010. Interested in poetry at a young age, she landed several open mics and competitions, placing third in Chicago’s annual louder Than a Bomb competition. Having relations with Chance the Rapper at a younger age, she was featured on his mixtape “Acid Rap” on the track “Lost”, and later appeared on Mick Jenkins album “The Waters” on the track “Comfortable”. Her most recent work was her first album, “Telefone”, released on July 31st, 2016, via SoundCloud.
The album includes 10 tracks, featuring artists such as Raury, theMIND, Xavier Omar, Saba, Joseph Chilliams, and more. Noname keeps her tone at a confident, effortless middle range, changing between rapping and slam poetry bits, pared with eccentric, appealing beats. The whole masterpiece creates a fresh, new sound, highlighting Noname’s unique voice and poetic lines. Despite only one album under her belt, she is an artist to watch.
