May lightning strike me down - but yes, I do believe that "Tangled" is better than "Frozen." While I love jamming out to ‘Let it Go” just as much as the next avid Disney-lover, "Tangled" combines humor with invigorating plots of independence and adds complexity to the typical Disney quest of finding oneself and chasing dreams. The character of Rapunzel is compassionate, interesting, and compelling with her avid desire to experience the world - making her story all the more interesting. Plus, she has magical hair.
Here are a few more reasons why "Tangled" outshines "Frozen:"
Flynn Rider
You have to admit, for a cartoon character, he is not too shabby looking. There is always something a little more exciting about a guy who is a little rough around the edges, right? He’s got the smolder, the underlying softness, and the dorky name Eugene. Not to mention, in the end, Rapunzel ends up saving him from his life of crime and thievery - instead of him saving her. Besides, she was his new dream. *swoon.*
Music by Alan Menken
The wonderful and legendary composer Alan Menken returned to give us the brilliant musical score of "Tangled." The soothing and magnificent song, “I See the Light,” is one of the most well-written and beautiful songs Disney has ever seen. Not to mention the catchy, folksy tune, “Kingdom Dance” that is played while Rapunzel and Flynn bee-bop and dance around the village.
The Ugly Duckling Scene
This is without a doubt my favorite part of the movie. The irony that is interwoven throughout this scene makes me laugh out loud, not to mention the fantastic lines from the song “I’ve Got a Dream:”
“But despite my evil look and my temper and my hook, I’ve always dreamt to be a concert pianist.”
“Though I do like breaking femurs you can count me with the dreamers, like everybody else I’ve got a dream.”
“Though I’m one disgusting blighter, I'm a lover - not a fighter, cause way down deep inside I’ve got a dream.”
"Though my face leaves people screaming, there's a child behind it dreaming, like everybody else I’ve got a dream."
“Bruiser knits, Killer sews, Fang does little puppets shows and Vladimir collects ceramic unicorns.”
Maximus / Pascal
The story would not be complete or near as entertaining without the assistance from Maximus and Pascal. Maximus, the most cunning, fierce, and sassy Kingdom horse the world has ever seen, develops quite the unique love-hate relationship with Flynn, providing comic relief throughout the film. Pascal is Rapunzel's dearest friend and most loyal sidekick, and his color-shifting chameleon skills are worthy of praise.
The Light Festival
The artistic brilliance found within "Tangled" is truly captivating. The light festival itself is a gorgeous display, as the lanterns illuminate the night sky, rising high and being reflected in the water. Also, this is the scene where Rapunzel and Flynn belt out their romantic duet, which is one of their best onscreen moments.
