To Anyone Who Has Ever Thought About Driving After A Few Drinks

I’m sure almost everyone has been in a situation where they thought about driving home after just a couple drinks. We all say we would never do it but once you’re actually placed in that situation you start to think about it. Hopefully, you will always decide not to drive but we all know this is not always the case. This article is for those people.

If you ever decide to drive after a few drinks, realize this; you are either stupid or have a death wish. And even if it is the ladder, you are stupid either way. Even if you don’t care what happens to you, this decision does not only affect you. There are other people on the road, there are other people who are choosing to live their lives safely.

“Of the 1,070 traffic deaths among children ages 0 to 14 years in 2014, 209 (19%) involved an alcohol-impaired driver” (http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/812231.pdf).

When you drive under the influence, you are not just putting your own safety at risk, you are putting the safety of everyone’s lives around you at risk. And frankly, you have absolutely no right to make that choice. You have absolutely no right to get in a car under the influence and endanger the lives of everyone around you.

As an EMT and someone who has been a part of that community for my whole life, I can also tell you that whenever I hear a call that involves an alcohol-impaired driver, I am immediately filled with rage. It is most definitely because I’ve seen so many parents lose their children over the actions of an alcohol-impaired driver, but it is also because I’ve seen people’s entire lives change due to PTSD caused by these accidents. These are people that chose their job in order to help people, and ended up being destroyed in the process because of idiots that think it’s okay to drive after drinking.

I do not believe the intentions of an alcohol-impaired driver is to kill anyone or ruin anyone’s life but they simply do not think about how their decisions can affect others. So all I ask of drivers is to think, think about who else your actions are affecting and have compassion for those around you, you have absolutely no right to make decisions for other people so do not be a danger to those around you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
