Let me first begin by saying, no I did not vote for Donald Trump. His personal beliefs and morals do not align with my own and so he was not and still is not my choice for our next president. However, I do know many people who voted for Trump as well as their reasoning and I can understand why they would want someone like him as our president. From growing Trump support, a far more terrifying movement has been created. The anti-Trump and anti-Trump supporter sentiment now sweeping the nation has made it increasingly more dangerous to be a fan of Donald Trump.
Some might argue that it is not the anti-Trump movement that is creating violence but the Trump supporters themselves. After all, we've seen and heard Donald Trump offer to pay the legal fees for someone who punches a protester in the face. We have also seen the fights that have broken out between protesters and Trump supporters. There is, however, a big difference between making a joke about punching someone and paying for legal fees, or fighting back when some gets in your face, and the anti-Trump messages we are seeing on a daily basis.
There has already been one attempted attack on Donald Trump. Thomas Dimassimo rushed the stage at one Trump rally after he claimed on his Twitter that he was tired of the violent Trump supporters and was going to "spit on their false king". Where are the reports of attacks on other presidential candidates like Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz, or Bernie Sanders? There are none, simply because the anti-Trumpets are the most violent of any political group.
This particular post has graced my Facebook dashboard an alarming number of times. First, it says, "If he becomes president it changes nothing". No, it honestly probably won't change much. Through the eyes of citizens, the presidential office has what is called a single executive image. Meaning, that the presidential office seems to hold an extreme amount of power. We must remember that the president is not all powerful. If we think back to middle school social studies we will remember what are called checks and balances. Congress would not allow Donald Trump to do whatever he pleased in office. Especially, if it was unconstitutional.
On another note, I have not seen Donald Trump endorse anything promoting a change toward African-Americans and how they are treated. The post says, "Let your boy get elected, and you start thinking you gon put your hands on me, call me a n----, say n---- whenever you want..." Once again, allowing anyone to use the "n" word whenever they want has never been a part of Trump's campaign. Personally, I don't believe anyone should say it, of any color, because of its historical context.
The one phrase that chills me to the bone in this status is, "I don't believe in non-violence." That phrase, if re-written states, "I do believe in violence". During the civil rights movement, non-violence was used to emphasize even further the discrimination and the mistreatment that African-Americans endured. However, this status is saying that violence will be used against people who vote for a particular man simply because the writer of the status has created the idea that all the "white Trump lovers" wish to put their hands on him and use racial slurs.
There have been numerous "Assassinate Donald Trump" accounts created on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Hopefully, these threats on a human life have been taken seriously and have had proper authorities investigate them, but because of the amount of these pages being created and the frequency, I highly doubt they are. Donald Trump is a human being. He is a father and a husband. Although, like I previously stated, he has lived a questionable lifestyle, who are we to determine whose life should end? Especially someone who has only become hated because he is exercising his right to run for office.
Even more alarming, rapper Rick Ross released a song in December calling for the assassination of Donald Trump. "Assassinate Trump like I'm Zimmerman now", the rapper says. Obviously, the lyric is talking about the controversial George Zimmerman case. The message I want everyone to take away from this article is not that all people who don't support Trump are violent. What I do hope to get across is that this form of anti-Trumpism is a group of radical people who are willing to use violence against those who do not agree with them. There are certainly peaceful people out there voting for Bernie, Hillary, Ted, Trump, or whoever else. The problem here is that a group has been created who are not understanding, not sympathetic, and are looking for something to be angry about. Out of the billions of people on this planet, it's obvious that we are bound to disagree. When those disagreements arise, it is how we handle them that makes or breaks us.
