Just Another Letter To My One And Only Big

Basically, I couldn't do this without you.

Just Another Letter To My One And Only Big
Megan Raju

Hi, Biggie,

I know I tag you in a bunch of “I love my big so much” things, but I thought maybe writing my own would mean a little more. It’s been a nice few months as your baby. In that short time, we have grown so very close. I might not be everything you expected, but I hope to be everything you need.

At first, I felt like I was annoying you. I would give you space when I felt like I was being too much. Then came getting to know you and the sorority better, and I felt like you were the only one who could give me answers I could understand. I admit that once I get comfortable with someone, I'm a clinger. But let’s face it — ever since you tackled me at bid night, I knew I was meant to annoy you forever. I automatically knew that you are the smartest, kindest and funniest person I might ever know. Sorority girls are usually pinned as arrogant airheads, but you are the opposite. You are so down to earth and humble. And although you go through a lot yourself, you are always there for everyone else.

Now they call us partners in crime. Every time I yell, “Mom,” down the hallway, everyone automatically knows that it’s me looking for you. When I need to talk to someone, I come to you. When something is wrong, whether I’m out at a party or in bed, I always feel the need to call you. That’s not just because you’re my Big, but because you keep me safe and calm me down. Don’t ask me what I’m going to do when you graduate, because I won’t answer you. I’ll just crawl into a corner and sob. Constantly.

You give me boy advice even when I know what you’re going to say. I know that I tell you this all the time, but anybody that hurts you, any ex who tries to come back to you after hurting you, will probably have to go through me first (and we already know it won’t be pretty).

We talk about our awkward nights the next day over McDonald’s breakfast and coffee. We basically have the same order at every restaurant we go to. You and I are simply a match made in Big/Little heaven.

I want you to know that I appreciate every single moment. Every talk, every movie night and every food run. Every moment I’m with you, I remember why I’m so glad I rushed in the first place. You have a special way of spoiling me and a special way of raising me to be the best Greek woman I can be.

At the same time, you know when I make mistakes. You do your best to help me through every problem, and I cannot thank you enough. When I'm sobbing about my problems at 2 in the morning, you're right there.

Sometimes I forget that you’re human, too. Because in my eyes you are the person who can do everything right. So when you make mistakes, I may be taken aback a little, but know that even when I’m not here, I will always be here.

This is just another cheesy letter to show the world how important a Big/Little relationship is, and also to show everyone how blessed I am to have you as my Big.

Love you long time,

Your favorite Little

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
