Since June 30 is "National Social Media Day," I think we need to take a step back and realize how often we log-on to social media in general. If you use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr or Snapchat, you have come across some interesting people or content. Social media has a positive place in our society, since we have a day to celebrate, but there comes a time when people use it far too much.
So, I decided to put together a list of people you don't want to become on social media, because we all get annoyed by that one old relative that uploads everything they are doing, or your friend that needs to tone it down online.
1. The Gym Rat.
Alright, we all know this guy's routine and purpose in life, thanks to his endless posts about protein and supplements. We all really don't care that you are jacked or re-post "Workout Humor" memes. It's great that you are keeping in shape and all, but your ego is a little bigger than your muscles.
2. The Black Screen "Depressed" Snapchats.
I'm sure most people have someone on Snapchat that posts black screens to their stories with sad captions. These include, "I miss you so much," or "Why does this have to happen to me?" Posting it on Snapchat just seems like you are trying to get attention from people in the absolute wrong way. Go to someone you trust, not the internet.
3. The Political "Expert."
When it comes to politics, we all have our opinions and that is what makes this country so great. Unfortunately, many people like to take these opinions and write long posts and rude comments. This happens on every form of social media and those that don't know what their talking about, or those that are nasty just make me lose faith in America.
4. The Annoying Couples.
I think we all know a friend or someone from high school that posts a picture of their boyfriend or girlfriend almost every day. Yes, we know you have been dating for a long time, we just don't need to see it all the time. Always remember that your life is more than your significant other.
5. The "I'm in (insert Greek letters here)."
All right, don't get me wrong here, I think Greek life is a great thing to be involved in. However, when you start making photo collages for every sister's birthday or posting every time you hang out with your Big, Little, G Big, Uncle Big, Ex Little or Cousin Big twice removed, it gets to be too much.
6. The "Game Lover."
How do these people still exist?! I abandoned my FarmVille and Candy Crush accounts years ago. I am totally fine with the fact that you still play because you can do you, but when I get 99+ game requests, I begin to draw the line. If I haven't sent you back a cow or some free lives, I most likely don't open the ones you give me.
7. The "I Only Post Selfies and Body Shots."
It isn't necessary for you to post only pictures of yourself. I'm always happy when people are self confident, but this is different as it comes from a place of insecurity. Being good at applying makeup and filters only gets you virtual likes and favorites.
