An Open Letter To Spring Semester

Well, here we are again, back to late nights and early mornings. For most of us, it was just getting to the point where we were all missing our days being filled with incessant cramming and caffeine headaches. Or at least we were desperately missing our independence. So hello, spring semester, and hello anxiety! I guess we missed you, or at least we missed the excuse to see all of our friends again and be back in our dorms. Although it is depressing to say goodbye to free food and clean laundry, c'est la vie. Time to face reality.

Probably one of the best things about coming back to you, spring semester, is the fact that we have new classes and get to meet new people. Fresh faces after a month of being surrounded by your immediate family can be considered a miracle, but along with a slew of new bodies there are also new challenges to face. Were you able to get all your books on time? Did registration destroy your schedule and give you an awful professor? So many worries added on to the stress of having to lug everything you own back into your teeny dorm. Spring semester, as necessary as you are, could you hand me a few Xanax or let me take a nap? I don't know if I will be able to perform under all this stress.

Although, being back does benefit the sad state of my love life. Always have to be thinking ahead, don't you know? Truth be told, spring semester, you will probably end up being a semester dedicated to attempting to fulfill a slew of disastrous New Year's resolutions. Lose weight? As if. Date more? More like binge more on Netflix. Dean's List? Think again. Spring semester, you are going to be up to your neck in student woes.

But do not lose hope! Even if spring semester, may tear us down it will also lift us up. Think about it this way, there are maybe four more months left before summer! Then you will have one more year of school under your belt and you will be ever closer to your end goal: graduation. Not to mention all the holidays we get to look forward too: Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, April Fools Day, and Earth Day. So many good times are ahead of us! I mean come on, Earth day is pretty exciting. Maybe.

Ultimately, our goal during our time with you, spring semester, is to succeed. We will pass all of our classes and do whatever is necessary to simply survive until summer comes around. So in a way, you could consider yourself a world-class motivator for success! Congratulations, spring semester, you're kind of amazing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
