To Whom It May Concern,
I no longer hold any grief towards you. This article is my release of all things that have planted a bitter seed in my heart from the past. In reality, I should thank all of you. I was given a huge dose of reality before I even entered into the adult world that was always described as a cold, hard place. I now can see with clarity that the world is soft, like clay, and is molded by how we perceive it.
I’ve always found that my fatal flaw is how tender-hearted I am and how easily I let people in. I allow myself to get hurt again and again by the same things. I blame myself because it seems I just will never learn my lesson. But maybe I learned my lesson a long time ago and just never realized it. I am blessed to have such an open heart. It continues to forgive and forget because it understands that people do make mistakes and deserve a second chance.
When people say that sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt you, I question how they can believe that. It is sadly human nature that if we are truly upset that we attack people where they are most vulnerable. When someone delivers a catastrophic blow to one of our vulnerabilities we keep picking at the wound. We are only hurting ourselves. I’ve always been told that forgiveness isn’t for the other person, it is for yourself. If you are reading this, I want you to know that I forgive you. I also hope that you can forgive me because none of us are innocent. We have all hurt someone before whether we did so intentionally or unintentionally.
Sincerely,
Freed From My Chains
