Dear guy friend who taught me how to love,
You don’t know that you’re the one whom the instant I see you, I know everything is going to be okay. You don’t understand that I could spend forever with you and still wish that you were with me the moment you left. You may not know that even though you have your issues, I see you as perfect. You may not know that you are my absolute favorite person to be around. And, though you may not know it, you will always be a crucial key in my life. You see, currently you are my safety; but, if you ever cease to be a warm body in my life… you will always be the one who taught me how to love and ergo, taught me what a true relationship should be. Every man to walk into my life after this, will unceasingly be compared to you. I trust you with my life. You made me fall without ever allowing my stomach to drop into that endless, black pit but yet, never impeding the euphoric sensation of flying. Accepting all sides of me and embracing me regardless. Lifting me up when I fell and smiling when I discovered how to lift myself. You never left my side, and I will never leave yours.
You, my dear best friend, taught me that the best relationships are formed through friendship and not the rainbows and butterflies of mere flattery. Indeed, if I had to pick a man to marry in this very moment… it would be you. The one that always shows up regardless of the implications, the one who never lets me down, the one who knows just when, and how, to save me. The one that everyone always questioned my relationship with- “Are you together yet?” “Do you guys have a thing?” Those questions were relentless and I’m not sure why you decided the pestering was entirely worth it, but I’m glad you did. I'm not sure what I would do without my partner in crime.You always had my back; but, you knew that I was strong and could’ve survived without you. I only hope you know in the deepest parts of you that I would never want to live without you. You protected me, and defended me, even when I wasn’t around. You revealed to me what true loyalty was. And your arms have always been, and may always be, the safest place in this universe. Your arms have held just about everything- joy, fear, celebrations, sorrow and relief; never failing to bring comfort. On my worst days, I’m not sure that I would have ever chosen to leave, but you challenged me to be better than I thought was possible. You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and that is the greatest gift anyone has ever given me.
In the end, all I want you to know is this- I love you. I love all that you have been, all that you are and all that you will become. I will always be your number 1 fan, regardless of what may happen between us. And though we may have to go our own ways sometime, I will always book a flight around the world for you. I will always fight for you, just as you have always fought for me.
