An Open Letter To The Guy I Fell For

I'm not going to write you the famous "Pick Me. Choose Me. Love Me." speech Meredith gives Derek in Grey's Anatomy but I will give you my time writing this. I'm the type of girl who doesn't express her feelings out in the open often, but here I am. I don't fall hard for any guy, but I did for you. The moment I fell for you was the greatest yet scariest, only because I didn't know where we might end up. You were my best friend. You were the person I always wanted to tell everything to. But now you're not mine anymore and will soon become someone else's.

Though we're not together anymore, I want you to know I'm happy we crossed paths. I'm happy that throughout these past months we had a chance to be together. From the moment I met you, I knew you were going to change my life. I didn't think you were going to mean so much to me, but somehow you tore down my walls and I let you in. I wanted to be with you more than any other guy.

I enjoyed being with you every moment of every day. From going on walks around campus to taking naps together after classes to watching comedy movies- you were my happy place. You led me down a journey that was filled with many memories and laughter. When I was sick, you were by my side making sure I would be okay. When I was sad or angry, you were there to listen to me vent. You would smile at me every time I got excited over the littlest things. I always enjoyed receiving your simple "good morning" texts because knowing you were thinking of me made my entire day better. You made me feel safe even when bad things were happening in the world. Knowing how much of a great guy you are is the reason I fell for you.

Time just changed something between us. I don't know where we went wrong. It hurts from time to time when people ask about you, but the only way I can get over it is to talk about it. Not only do you need to know how I felt when we were together, but it's time I move on. It's time for me to try to be myself again. I wish we could have fought harder for each other, but time showed that we weren't meant to be. Maybe it was a "right guy, wrong time" situation but everything happens for a reason.

I hope the next girl you date treats you just as good as I did. I hope she tells you all about her hopes and dreams for the future. I hope you can be each other's best friends, just like how we were. I hope she attends your dream musical festival with you, whether it be EDC, Electric Forest, or Coachella. I hope she can make you happy. She might be glued and taped together from a past relationship but I hope you hold each and every broken piece of her with your love. Don't make her tear her walls down for you only to realize she needs to rebuild them all over again. Please don't break her.

Again, I'm happy we've met each other. Thank you for taking me down this journey. We might have lost each other in the end, but that means we're one step closer to finding the people we're meant to be with. If you read this letter, just know that I'm always going to care about you and it's important that you know how I felt. My words and feelings are out in the open and I feel free.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
