Dear Sisters,

These past three weeks have been a rollercoaster for all of us. From rush week to syllabus week and everything in between, each of us has gone from strangers to sisters. We all have different backgrounds and come from different places but we now share one common home in our sorority. I can't wait to take on this year with all of you and I hope you all feel just as excited as I am.

I grew up in a home with only one brother. I never had the opportunity to know what it was like to have a sister who could be there for you in your times of need or just be there to borrow clothes from. I've always wanted a sister, but growing up I had a hard time connecting with girls, and I never really had a strong friend group. I was scared I wouldn't belong anywhere, but that all changed when I met you guys. Being in a sorority has helped me gain the confidence to interact with you all and I gained not one, but 80 incredible best friends. No matter what, I know that each and every one of you will be there for me and I couldn't be more thankful for that.

I promise that no matter what happens, I will stick with each of you. I promise to let you borrow my clothes and I promise to grab Hot Box with you at one in the morning. I promise to be the shoulder you cry on and the smiles you guys need on a bad day. I promise to be there for any problem that comes our way whether it's about a boy or about school or even about which top you should wear to a basketball game. I promise to help you guys pick out dresses for our formals. I promise to be there for all of you as we start by being initiated by our older sorority sisters and end with us in our graduation caps, off to the next steps in our life.

You guys don't know it yet but you all have already made my life so much better. If I had made the decision not to rush, I wouldn't have met most of you. I wouldn't be able to say that I have 80 best friends, all of who have amazing personalities and who are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. You guys could have rejected me and outcasted me but I honestly feel like you all have been so accepting and welcoming which helped me know that I made the right choice in picking my sorority. I can't wait to see what life has in store for us and I hope that we end up being life long friends, but for the next four years, we get to call each other sisters.

Love,

Your Pledge Sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
