An Open Letter To The Girl My Little Brother Will Marry
Megan Endres

To the very lucky girl my brother will fall in love with (one day),

He is one-of-a-kind, one of the best kind, actually. The kind of person that reminds you of how much you matter just by being around him. He is funny, fiercely loyal, strong, and loving. And you are the lucky one he has chosen.

He will work hard for you, wipe your tears, pick you up when you fall and steady you when you stumble. He will comfort you in your fears and stand beside you as you overcome them. He will protect you and never cease to fight for you. He will hold your hands through every trial that you will come to face in this life as he walks through them with you, fearlessly.

You are now a part of his loving heart; his beautiful, kind heart. The precious heart that he fights to keep hidden, but instead it shines with such an immense amount of passion, in the way that only his spirit can. A heart with pure intentions and unconditional love. A heart that is not without flaw, but still beautiful in its imperfections. A heart that has grieved and grown through loss. A heart that has been broken and mended. A heart that has so much passion for the things and the people that he loves. A heart that always choose others. A heart that will ache with you in your time of grief and rejoice with you in your time of triumph. A heart filled with compassion. A heart that loves to teach you about the things that put the sparkle in his eyes and longs to learn about the things that put the sparkle in your own eyes. A precious heart that will support your every endeavor. You are now a piece of his joyful heart that will love you, trust it.

You are on his team. His team that rejoices in his triumphs and builds him up through his failures. His team who notices that sparkle in his eye when he talks about the things he loves. His team -- the people who have been lucky enough to truly know him, the ones who know how much he longs to see others succeed, how much he loves adventure, how he wants to share in his happiness with the ones around him, how sometimes he just needs you to listen to him and not say anything, how he loves wholly and unconditionally -- the ones he loves and the ones who love him. We love him, we cheer for him, we comfort him, and we push him to be better. You are now a part of that team, we will do the same for you.

He is smart, stubborn, kind, frustrating, patient, joyful, talented, understanding, accepting, and brave. And he has chosen you. Welcome to the team.

All the love,

His Biggest Fan

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Obsessive Thoughts Keep My Brain Stuck On A Loop And Me Stuck On My Couch

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.
