Dear fellow concert addict,

This is the best kind of addiction.

There are going to be plenty of people who tell you that you spend way too much money and spend too many nights going to concerts. The thing that you and I both know is that's wrong.

For starters, you can't really let people tell you what's wasteful and what isn't because these are your own life choices. Secondly, I can say that live music is really good for your spiritual mind.

When you’re at a concert of some of your favorite musical artists, you feel no need to act a certain way in case you might be judged. Nobody really thinks about it, but a concert is one of the least judgmental zones you can put yourself in. Now that may seem a bit crazy to phrase it like that, but think about it- you’re in a place surrounded with people who share the same amount of passion and enthusiasm for the music you’re about to hear- nobody is really going to care about anything else but gushing to one another about how excited they are to be there. Typically, people are so excited to be there you might even make a friend or two. These people are the nicest people you’ll ever meet, if your shoe’s untied in a crowd that random girl next to you is bound to say “sure, I can tie your shoe” or even lend you a hair tie if you need it. The energy of this is just so positive, how could you not want to go back and do it several other times after your first one?

These are one of the many things people seem to not consider is, this actually is a good way to make you feel more down to earth. Crazy thought right, how could you be bringing yourself down to earth if you record every second on your phone? You see the magic happen, the artist in real life making the music right before your eyes. It's not like when you see a video, or when you listen to a song, the feeling is incredibly different. The artist makes you feel something, you feel the music so much more because of the vibe and stage presence of the artist during the concert. You’re so lost in the moment it helps you forget about everything else aside from the concert and the artist in front of you. The only reason you’re recording is to capture the beautiful moments so you could reminisce about them later, right? Not because you’re too attached to your phone- which you are but we won't go there.

This experience is especially good for the mind of those who suffer from crippling anxiety and depression. When you’re in this situation and your mind isn't thinking such obscure thoughts such as your situation or what you’re going through- it allows you to feel an abundance of contentment even if it's only for a few hours. Its almost recuperating for someone who struggles with anxiety and depression because it is a way to forget about your problems enjoy yourself without the use of negative coping mechanisms such as binge drinking or use of drugs. This is the big reason why we go right? Because it makes us feel more alive, because it's good for our soul.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
