Dear Mr. President,
I can honestly say that I am not looking forward to the day when we won't be able to call you by that title anymore. For the past 8 years, you have filled the oval office, as well as this country, with grace, dignity, and class, and I don't believe anyone could deny that. And as we face the upcoming election for the next President of the United States this week I just want to say; thank you. And not in the way that social media has taken to the sarcastic hashtag #thanksobama, I mean it in honest and sincere gratitude.
I am grateful because I believe you have done great justice to the title of Commander in Chief. Throughout your presidency you have achieved many successes; repealing the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" act, effectively ending the war in Iraq, bringing us out of the greatest financial recession since the Great Depression, advocating for access to universal healthcare to be a right instead of a privilege, kicking out banks from our Federal Student Loan program, fighting for the rights of all women and so much more. You have also gracefully carried us through tragedy while instilling hope; in the face of 14 separate mass shootings you spoke from your heart each time and advocated for safety and healing.
Aside from the very real facts of success during your presidency, you have also done this country proud through your diplomatic manner, kind and thoughtful words and speeches, and effort to always stand up for what is right no matter in the face of many opposing forces in the public and government.
As the news coverage of this upcoming election goes viral and as our candidates have completed their debates, it has occurred to me that your presidential race was never wrought with the type of scandal and drama that has unfolded within this race to be Commander in Chief. President Obama, you are the only president in history who hasn't had a major scandal within your administration. Your debates were about the facts. Your plans were expressed clearly. The questions were answered. And politics; yes politics, were the main focus of the discussions. Quoting Hillary Clinton, you "prepared" to be president.
As we look forward towards this election, we must look for someone with the values and drive that you hold. This is because we require a president who believes in this country and that we can only heal ourselves together, and not divided. And I hope we make the right choice and stand with the candidate who promises the most peace, grace, and experience. It is easy to place sole blame on the leader for a country's troubles, but as we take a few steps back after you take your leave from office, I believe that this country will realize what an outstanding leader we truly had.
And again, I want to say, thank you for putting this country first, and showing us what a good president, and a great person, is. You will be missed.
