A Thank You Note To My Sorority
Megan Ryle

On August 30th 2015, it was sorority bid day, AKA the best day of a sorority girl’s life. The excitement from everyone getting their bids was bouncing off of the walls. We pictured ourselves running to our new homes, wearing our letters with pride and making friends that would last a lifetime. I didn’t know how fast we would fall in love with our new home and our new sisters. The new member period is something I’ll never forget and before I initiate, I have a lot of people I need to thank.

To my new member educators

Thank you for teaching me the history of our chapter and making my new member meetings fun. Thank you for dealing with all of my random questions that could easily be answered if I just checked the calendar. Thank you for being my first mentors and showing me what it’s like to be a sister.

To my chapter president

Thank you for treating me like I’m a part of our chapter and for showing me what it’s like to be a leader. Thank you for always encouraging the new members to get involved and for loving us weird quirks and all. Thank you for running the chapter smoothly and help make our chapter my home.

To the active members

Thank you guys for welcoming into your home and help me make it my own. Thank you for noticing me during recruitment and seeing something special in me. Thank you for showing me that I belong here and that I’m a valuable member of our chapter. Thank you for inspiring me to be the best I can be and how to wear my letters with pride. Most of all, thank you for being the best part of me and showing me who I can be.

To my Big

Thank you for tricking me for a whole week and lying to me about you. Thank you for putting me through one of the most stressful weeks of my life but being the biggest blessing I could ask for. Thanks for always answering my texts, phone calls, snapchats, tweets and never thinking that I’m weird. Thank you for answering my weird questions and for being honest with me. Thanks for handling Twiddle and I because I know we get pretty insane.Thank you for not only being my mentor, but my best friend. Most importantly, thank you for loving me unconditionally.

To my Twiddle

Thank you for helping me get through Big/Little reveal week and trying to figure out who our Big was. Thank you for always wanting to go on crazy adventures and share a Big with me. Thanks for having Twid moments that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you for being my best friend and already planning a future with me to make Big a Grand Big and how to mess with our future Littles. Thanks for all of the weird snapchats that will always end up on Instagram for #TwidTuesday.Thank you for being the best Twid a girl could ask for.

To my new member class

We did it guys! We stuck together through this crazy ride called the new member period and I really need to thank you guys. Thanks for being the best bunch of weirdos a girl could ask for. Thank you for having the most random conversations with me and never failing to make me laugh. Thank you for showing me the true meaning of sisterhood and for picking me up when I’m down. Thank you for being my first friends in our chapter and making the most random jokes and stories. Thank you for failing at sports and singing completely off key with me. Most importantly, thank you for being you. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.

The new member period was one of the most fun, yet stressful experiences of my life. I couldn’t have done it without any of you guys and I want nothing but the best for all of you. Thanks for the amazing memories and here’s to the future memories and adventures we will have together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
