This is it. Can you believe how quickly the time has passed? It seems like just yesterday, we were both walking around in footie pajamas, pretending to be Disney princesses and taking bubble baths. Sometimes—like in moments like these—I wish we could go back in time. I am so nostalgic. I bet you Mom and Dad would say the same thing. You’re the best and worst sister of all the time. The best for just being you and the worst for leaving me.
Let me first start by saying, I am so unbelievably proud of you. You have accomplished more than I could have ever imagined accomplishing at your age. You are my inspiration and I never want you to forget it. My goal is to be half the woman you are growing up to be. As we head off on our separate paths, I hope you know that I will always be here for you and will always cherish our childhood memories, especially the ones where I got in trouble to protect you (you’re welcome). But before you take the next step on your journey, I hope you never forget:
I am your biggest fan.
I want to constantly remind you that I am so proud of how far you’ve come – and how far you’ll continue to go. If you need a sign that reads “You can do it!” during your next exam, your next job interview or your next big date, I’ll be there.
I am always a text, phone call or Facetime away.
My phone is always on and charged. I got you, girl.
I never want you to let someone transform you into someone you’re not.
You put enough pressure on yourself, don’t let others do the same. You’re a strong woman (I’ve taught you well) and I know you have the power and authority to say "no" in any situation—and if you feel like you can’t, just call.
You are perfect just the way you are.
And I’m not just saying that because we look alike and have the same obnoxious laugh, it’s the truth.
I want you to always treat others the way you wish to be treated.
You and I both know what it’s like to have friends talk about you behind your back – never be that friend. You are better than that.
Friendship quality will always be better than friendship quantity.
Wherever you go and wherever you end up, a few true friends will always be better than a lot of acquaintances. Trust me, I’ve learned from experience.
If you think you’ve failed, keep on going. Failure is your key to success.
We’re both perfectionists, I know that. But there’s more to life than being perfect and every failure will lead you to exactly where you’re meant to be heading.
Boys will come and go, same with friends and roommates, but me? I’ll always be right here.
And I’ll never back down on my word.
I love you.
More than you'll ever know.
And I will always steal your clothes.
And I’ll never be sorry about it.
With love,
Your Look-Alike, Your Best Friend & Your Sister
