An Open Letter To My 'Random' Roommate Who Became My Best Friend

Thank you for the endless laughs, I couldn't of imagined my time without you.

An Open Letter To My 'Random' Roommate Who Became My Best Friend

To my "random" roommate, I need to thank you. I count my blessings twice when I think that we got set up from mutual friends. First off, I want to thank you for the endless laughs and the shameless late-night runs to the market. Thank you for understanding that I'm not a morning person, and for reminding me that my next class starts in ten minutes so I better get out of bed. I couldn’t have done this semester without you. Well, truth is I could’ve, but I wouldn’t have learned as much about myself. You've taught me to have an open-minded perspective on life that I could not have sought out alone. With the small time we had together, you have taught me so much. Some things I want to thank you for are…

1. For letting me in with open arms: We both know we were randomly set up through mutual friends, and the fact that you never gave me the awkward shoulder made me feel that much better about it all.

2. For being calm during my most panicked moments: Well, some days were just not on my side. But you always were. Thanks for helping me through every weekend when I did something I regretted or had an unexpected anxiety attack. I think we both had our moments and I'm glad we had each other to lean on.

3. For helping me when I just couldn't do life anymore: You were always there for me when I just completely broke down. I can't even come to terms with how good of a friend you were to me when I needed it.

4. For listening to my nonsense: Sometimes, I just needed advice, but I was so stubborn I didn't want to listen. Thanks for being there and telling me that I was being an idiot about it all. Sometimes that's all I need and you were there for me.

5. For being so persistent: I did not want to form a mega-bed at the end of the year like you did. But you insisted on it over and over again. When I finally gave in, I realized I wish we had done it sooner. What's better than endless sleepovers?

6. For letting me be my weird self: I think we both know how weird I can get and you never once judged me for being completely out of control. Not everyone can handle me all the time, so I give you major props.

7. For being weird with me: I needed someone who would do weird things with me without judgement. And you were always there to be my partner in crime and annoy all of our neighbors in our dorm.

8. For missing me even when I was only gone for 10 minutes: We both know that whenever one of us was gone for even a short amount of time, we would text each other asking where we were. The summer has felt like a century since I've seen you.

9. For forgiving me when I woke you up late at night: When I came home late at night, you never got mad when I came pounding on the door because I lost my key. Then you would let me tell you some crazy story that happened to me that was probably dumb enough not to be told.

10. For eating food with me: We were both always hungry. This worked out great because we never judged each other for late night runs to the market. I'm pretty sure we were always the people to close the market out. It also worked out because we both ate each others food. *Cough* (Sincerely Nuts)...

11. For waking me up for class: You knew me better than anyone, and knew that you had to tell me that my class started in the next 10 minutes so I better get up and going. I probably would have missed half of my classes if it weren't for you.

Finally, I want to thank you for being undoubtedly my best friend. I could go on and on about the list, and that's the best part. I'm so thankful we stuck through the struggle to find a roommate because I couldn't be more lucky to have a partner in crime like you. I know we will be forever friends, and I know that because we didn't get tired of sharing our mega-bed for one second. Thank you for being you, I wouldn't have wanted my experience any other way.

Sincerely,

Nuts

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
