Years have gone by, and it hasn't gotten any easier. I still remember the car rides, your love for Johnny Cash, the way you looked when you didn't shave, and the way you looked at Nana like everyday you fell in love with her all over again. I miss you, so much and I know I'm not the only one. I wish I could go back to that last day and tell you all the things I'm forever thankful for.
Thank you for always having my back, whether it was on the swings, when I fell, or when I needed a push in the right direction. You were always there when I turned around, and you always were ready to pick me up when I was down.
The Candy, you always had gummy bears, chocolate, and Andes Mints hidden in the cabinet. The Andes mints are our favorite, whenever we get them I think of you. Every Christmas mom puts them in our stockings as a little reminder of you every holiday.
The morning cartoons, Tom and Jerry will always remind me of you. I will forever remember our Saturday mornings in the kitchen while you read me the comics during the commercials. You always sat at the head of the table, and we would sit on your lap while you sipped your coffee and told us stories.
Thank you for the trips to the park, I always felt on top of the world when you were pushing me on the swings. I was never scared to climb a bit higher because I knew you were right there to catch me if I fell. At eight years old, and even now at 18, I know you're always going to be there to catch me one way or another.
You were the best support system I could ever ask for. When my parents divorced you stepped in and not only were my grandfather, but were my father figure. I learned so much from you. You never let us see the bad side of things, and always did what you could to protect us.
Your hugs could cure anything, one hug from you changed my whole mood. Nothing in the world beats the smell of your t-shirts when we went in for a hug.
Thank you for letting me be your "Doctor" you let me out your eye-drops in for you, hand you medicine, and give you hugs. Letting me be apart of something so delicate in your life was an amazing thing to be apart of and it was amazing knowing I helped you out.
Thank you for the goodnight kisses, Always sending us to bed with sweet dreams and if it wasn't, you were there to make sure it was all alright.
You showed me how to build things, from making bird houses, to easy house hold fixes, you always showed us something new.
Thank you for being someone to look up to. You were always smiling, standing tall, welcoming with open arms. Always full of advice, jokes, stories. You did what was right, and what you had to do for your family. You never once faltered, Never once have I not tried to be just like you.
Thank you for loving me unconditionally. You ALWAYS told me you loved me, you always encouraged me to do what I wanted, you always were there with open arms when I needed you.
Thank you, from your granddaughter who wishes she could tell you one last time.
I love you
