Dear mom and dad,
Being a college student has made me much more aware of what an amazing job you did raising me. I know that I didn't make that job easier, ever. But you somehow stayed calm enough to make me be a person that cares for the world around me. The childhood that you gave me makes me want to do half as good of a job as you did while I was growing up.
I cannot thank you enough for the amount of time that you sacrificed to get me to countless practice and games on time. And even sometimes gently pushed me in the right direction when I really just didn't want to make it to practice, you taught me what commitment really meant. Sports weren't meant to be so challenging on a child, but you allowed me to believe that no matter what people were saying I was a good athlete. I wouldn't give up any of the memories that I made with you when we traveled ever other weekend. And we got to see some pretty amazing things, didn't we?
School has always been something that I know has been important to me and to you. You planted in my head when I was young that going to college was the only future that I wanted. You always encouraged me to strive for my own best. You made me remember that I was my own person and that I was never to compare myself to others. I just want to make you proud, I want all your hard work to pay off and see me successful.
Thank you for teaching me to respect and love my sister, you made me realize that my best friend has been with me since I could remember. I can't imagine how you made it through our numerous fights that were verbal and sometimes physical. Even though I eventually learned that she was much stronger than me and getting in a fight with her was a losing battle.
You taught me the value of money and how experiences are sometimes priceless. You always recited the phrase "money doesn't grow on trees". And there is no time like the present that reminds me, that money has a limit and scrapping together a meal can sometimes be the hardest task of the day. Experiences are always there to explore, but you have to be willing to put yourself out there and that can be hard. You grew my confidence and made be believe that there is no time like the present to do.
So mom and dad, I love you with ever fiber in my body. I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for you. I owe it all to you. I am so blessed that I have parents that cared about what my future could look like if I put in some hard work and maybe a few tears in to make me stronger.
Love,
Your daughter that's still learning to adult
