Dear New Best Friend,
First off, I am so happy for you! You have found a true jewel. Your new best friend is funny, outgoing, witty, and fun. I would know. She used to be my best friend.
While she was my best friend, we had the most amazing times together. Whether it was going out for coffee, chatting in class instead of listening to the professor, or studying in the library for an upcoming exam, she helped me make the good times great and the bad times better. She kept me laughing through the silence and smiling through the pressure. I will always treasure those times. They were so simple yet so special.
The bond between me and your new best friend seemed unbreakable. Secrets were shared. Stories were told. Memories were made. Somehow, however, that all came to a screeching halt.
Life happened I guess. I pursued one direction and she pursued another. Plans worked out for me, but plans changed for her. We promised we wouldn’t allow those diverging paths to change anything, yet that promise was broken. Texts came around less often, calls went unanswered, and attempts to reconnect headed south. At first, that made me upset, but I’ve since learned that’s just how life goes.
Since my old best friend checked out, I’ve learned an awful lot. I’ve learned that life moves forward. I’ve learned that the seasons of life have a purpose. I’ve learned that people that truly mean something to you will leave a lasting mark regardless of the circumstances.
I’ve since found new best friends. I love them a lot, and I couldn’t imagine my life without them. In fact, I feel closer to them than I ever have anyone else in my life, even closer than I was with your new best friend. That’s a little hard to think about, but it’s the truth. With them, I now share the secrets, stories and memories. Their friendship truly means the world to me.
She has since found new best friends too, and you are one of them. You should feel blessed. I know she feels blessed to have you too.
Your best friend and I are no longer best friends, but tell her I still think a lot of her. I wish her the best and will always reflect on our time together fondly.
God’s plan is sometimes unpredictable, but I now know it is perfect. You get this next chapter with my old best friend, and you should be excited about that. Your best friend taught me that friendship sometimes can be hard, but it always is worth it. Enjoy your time together; it may pass by quicker than you anticipated.
With regards,
The Old Best Friend
