An Open Letter To My Middle School Friends

Thank you for your friendship; you guys befriended me when I didn’t know who I was, let alone who I wanted to be.

Wow, it has been a crazy long time since we last all got together.

I want to start by apologizing; you guys were the best friends a middle schooler could have had, and I’m very sorry for not texting and calling more when we went off to different high schools. Our group of friends slowly started to drift apart and then one day the text messages and the phone calls came to a stop. At times, I wonder if things would have been different if we had all ended up at the same high school, who knows, right?

People drift apart no matter the distance, some friendships don't and those are the lucky ones. We, unfortunately, weren't a part of that group, But just because we grew apart it doesn't change the fact that for a long time you had my back, and I had yours. We grew up together, and we held each other up when we needed it.

We don't know what happens in each other lives anymore, and for that I am sorry. Our communication nowadays is just likes and shares on social media and even though we don’t talk anymore, it doesn’t mean I have forgotten you. I always bring up some of the crazy things we did and all the fun we had together; some of my fondest memories I have are with you.

Even now I'll think back to some of the things we did, and I can't help but smile. Our friendship was and will always be special whether I talk to you every day or maybe never at all.

But I’m glad to see that you guys are happy, and I’m proud of the adults you have become. Yeah, I know it crazy, we’re getting old, and it feels like just the other day we were celebrating each other's quinces and begging to our parents to let us go to the movies by ourselves.

We had a good run; our friendship was fun and real. I will never forget all the movie nights we had, and the nights we would stay up texting. I remember our food coloring waters, the Monster Energy drinks we would share in the morning before class and most of all I remember the laughs. You guys never failed to put a smile on my face. You all were my favorite thing about going to school, and I lived for those days where we would just hang out.

Thank you for being a crazy bunch of friends, for showing me how to have fun and let go. Thank you for your friendship; you guys befriended me when I didn’t know who I was, let alone who I wanted to be.

I love seeing you guys happy, and I wish you guys nothing but the best. I hope you guys know you will always have a friend in me whenever you need it, no matter how long it has been since the last time we talked.

I’m proud of you, and I will always be rooting for you.

Much love,

Your middle school friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
