An Open Letter To My Mediocre Co-Worker

A rant mixed with why hard workers are amazing despite criticism.

Dear Co-Worker,

Thank you for pointing out to our boss that I did your job for you... When you were standing right there. I appreciate you showing them that I am capable of doing my job so well that I don't stop at the minimum amount of effort that you put in. Quite frankly, I was offended you, "rule follower," missed the Employee Conflict Resolution Chain Of Action page. You were supposed to come to ME first to talk the issue out and find a resolution which I happily would have done. However, I truly do not care that you complained because I love my bosses and know that they saw through your attempt to belittle me despite my abundant experience (6 years to be exact).

I am not the kind of person who just gives the minimally required effort at anything I do... It's 0 or 100 with me, nothing in between. So to the co-worker who bitched me out for doing my job and hers while she stood idly by with Dunkin in her hand and watching a needed correction happen right before her eyes. I don't understand how her job is to essentially turn herself in for not doing her simple job, funny right? You think I'd be the one complaining, but I was *surprise* doing my job while she was yet again ignoring her's.

That was my rant. And I just want to say: if you get called a "try-hard," "goody-goody," or anything else of the sort, YOU ARE A GOOD WORKER. You make the world go round while other people complain about how you did their job for them because you saw them not doing it. Your bosses value your often unthanked work. I am here to thank you and tell you the slack you pick up and the caliber your work is what allows our world to advance and evolve. No, you are not perfect and don't boast or be showy, quietly know you are doing great work and will one day be recognized for your hard work and dedication to rising above mediocrity in the workplace.

To wrap this up, it is okay that she bitched, I would turn myself in too if I didn't do the most basic parts of my job too... Oh wait, that's never me nor will it ever be. :) So cheers to you bitchy co-worker, I'll see you when my job is done well before yours is, without causing trouble. Sorry I just am a better worker than you.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sincerely,

The Hard-Worker

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Being Invisible The Best Super Power

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
