An Open Letter to My High School Best Friend

An Open Letter to My High School Best Friend
Kalli Beaulieu

When we started our freshman year of high school together everything was great! We were closer than ever and we vowed to keep it that way, but we had no idea how much these next four years were going to change ourselves individually and our relationship.

Sure, we talked all throughout high school, but as the years went on the communication became less and less frequent. We got involved with sports, activities, clubs, made new friends, and started figuring out what path in life we wanted to take. We supported each other through everything, and even though we weren't as close as we were before, we could still count on each other for advice on anything and everything.

Sadly, our paths separated after graduation, but I want you to know that I'm so happy for you. You are one of the best people that I have ever met in my life and will always hold a special place in my heart. We made so many incredible memories over the years that I will cherish forever. You helped make me the person that I am today, and I can't thank you enough for that. Also, I can't thank you enough for the continuous love and support that you gave me. Even with everything going on in our busy lives, you were still always there for me when I needed you.

Now, in our freshman year of college at different schools miles apart, our lives are busier now more than ever. Although it's very rare, getting that simple "Hey, bud! Hope everything's going well!" text message brings a huge smile to my face. Of course I'd love to go back to the good old days of living in the same town and being able to hang out whenever, but now I understand and accept the fact that life is just like that. Simply, I just want you to know that you will always be my best friend whether we end up losing touch or not as more years go by, and that I have and always will love you no matter what.

Thank you again for EVERYTHING.

Love always,

Your High School Best Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
