Dear Mom,
I remember the stories you told me about how you became a hairdresser. It was either hair or business, and you chose right. When you married Dad and started a family, you must have been thrilled to find out you were having a girl. You finally had a little head of blonde hair to experiment and play with whenever you wanted. I spent countless mornings sitting between your legs in the living room. I would watch the Power Puff Girls while you put my hair in pigtails like Bubbles. Our trips to the salon always make my day. When I was little I liked spinning in your chair, now I like when you wax my eyebrows and give me highlights. Although when I was little I gave you a hard time when you brushed knots out of my hair and took too long curling it, I knew I was blessed to have you.
Every time someone compliments my hair, I always tell them you did it. The attention my hair recieves is just a reminder of how talented and awesome you are. I often hear how lucky I am to have a hairdresser for a mom, and how easy it must be, and they're right. We sure saved a lot of money during formal and prom season, and you're always there to give me beauty advice. I appreciate when you take the time to do my hair, and I miss you when I'm in college and forced to do it by myself. I know you tell me my hair still looks beautiful when I do it myself, but it's not the same without your expertise.
Thank you for doing my hair, and doing it beautifully any time I asked. You made me look gorgeous for every day of school, dance class, winter formal, prom, musicals and dance recitals. I know it's a long way off, but I can't wait to see how you do my hair for my wedding. Whether I had a date or I was hanging out with the girls, I was never ready to go out until you curled, straightened, or just fluffed up my hair. I appreciated it every time, and I miss it so much now that I'm in college. I learned how to do my hair for performances on my own, but I always feel like there's something missing. When I come home, I love going to the salon with you so you can cut and style my hair again. When I sit back in that chair, I feel like I never left home.
Thanks for being not only open to, but willing and excited to try a new style, color, or cut. When I wanted to chop my off long locks into a bob, and when I had to color my hair brown for West Side Story, you sat me in the chair and did what you did best. It must be exciting and nerve-wracking to change how someone looks, especially your own daughter, but I loved how you made me look every time.
Thank you for making me beautiful, confident, and happy. I'm so proud to be your daughter, and I love you to heaven and back.
Love, your best client and favorite daughter
