An Open Letter To My First Truck

A new beginning

An Open Letter To My First Truck
Kaitlin Nichols

Dear Betty,

You are my first truck. I got so excited, I decided to give you a name. You somewhat scare me because I'm not used to having a bed in the back. I've driven smaller cars in the past. We're not going to talk about them. You'll get jealous, and it's not a story that should not be repeated.

You didn't cost much, but that's ok. For being 17 years old, you run fantastically. We're in the process of fixing you up to be in pretty good shape. We fixed your manifold bolts so you sound better, and your shocks so you can handle the potholes of Michigan a tad bit better. We might have to fix your front shocks too, but that's ok.

We still have your door to fix, but that won't take long. You're defrosters don't work, so I'm sure you must be freezing. Don't worry: We think it's caused by a broken vacuum line. If not, we have ways so that your defrosters will work, and you won't be so cold.

We're going to test your radiator. If it passes the test, we're going to flush it, and give you new fluids. Same with your transmission. It'll feel really nice. I'm sure you're excited.

Though I can't drive you for a few weeks, that's ok. The day will come. It's not that far away. The day I get to drive you, we will go to a car wash. We'll get you all cleaned up.

So in the meantime, just hang tight in the parking lot. Everytime I look at you, know that I am thinking about all the good memories we'll make together.

Sincerely,

The girl who made the switch from Ford to Chevrolet

P.S Thank you for saving me $50 on insurance.

P.S.S Don't worry about the Ohio State sticker, we will get it off soon enough <3

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
