An Open Letter To My College Freshman Self

Dear College Freshman Self,

It’s 4 years later and you’ve just graduated college. It may seem far now, but the time goes by so fast you don’t even realize it. You learn so much about yourself and it truly forces you to grow up. Some things will change and others will remain exactly the same. If anything, CHERISH your time in college. They truly are some of the best years of your life. Looking back on these 4 years, here are few things you should know:

First of all, don’t doubt yourself. The road to achieving your dreams isn’t an easy one. You’ll be faced with many trials and tribulations. You’ll have to make sacrifices and you won’t be able to make everyone happy all the time. As long as you know that what you’re doing is truly something you want, makes you happy, and has the possibility of goodness attached to it, go after it with everything you have. Most importantly, “don’t let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game”.

Secondly, know that what’s good for someone may not necessarily be good for you too. Trust your gut and make decisions that you are most comfortable with. Don’t force yourself to be someone you’re not in order to please the people around you. Find the path that motivates you and makes you happy because ultimately, you have to live with decisions you make.

Also, friendship is key. College gives you the opportunity to meet many new people and make many new friends that will teach you something about yourself that you never knew. You will find true friends that you know you will always come back to for the rest your life. However, with time, your relationships may blossom, change, or even fade. Although you will want to hold onto every relationship, know that you can’t control everything and that every relationship has a time, place, and purpose. Don’t waste your time people who keep you from being nothing but your absolute best. Know your worth and spend your time with those who do too.

Most importantly, eventually everything passes. However hard things may seem right now, know that something good and completely unexpected is around the corner. In the end, it all seems unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

College is an amazing adventure. Think positive. Follow your heart. Chase your dreams. Appreciate the time you’re in. Live in the moment the best you can.

Wishing you all the best on your journey to more success,

Your College Graduate Self

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
