Dear College,
I thought about you every day in high school. I was anxious and excited to see where the future would take me and where I would move to for the next four years. When I made my decision in September of my senior year, I couldn't wait for it all to begin. Now that I've been here for three semesters, I've lived experiences only you could have taught me, and I thank you for that.
Thank you for teaching me how to have a strong work ethic. Let's be honest, no one worked hard in high school. Classes were easier and everything seemed to come naturally, and if it didn't, no one really cared anyway. Once I got here, I quickly realized how much effort I would need to put in to get the grades I wanted. The hard work ethic you taught me is something I'll have the rest of my life.
Thank you for the people you have brought into my life. I'm so extremely lucky to have met the people I have here. I'm fortunate enough to be on a sports team with 14 other amazing girls from all over the country, that I never would have met without you, girls who have become like my sisters. I have made a family out of the girls and guys I've met here, people I would take a bullet for, and people who I know would take a bullet for me.
Thank you for helping me realize my parents' worth. When you constantly live at home, you unconsciously take your parents for granted. It took me moving 300 miles away to realize how big of a component my parents are in my life, and it has brought me closer to them than ever. Thank you for exposing a side of my parents that I never would have got to know without you, the best friend side.
Thank you for teaching me how to take risks. I've always been very rule-orientated. I was afraid of the consequences of my actions for so long. When I came here, I learned the value of getting out of my comfort zone. Whether it was to take the more challenging class instead of the easy A, or initiating conversation with the guy who was way out of my league, you showed me that taking risks can lead to amazing outcomes.
Thank you for the future you're giving me. Even though I complain about you all the time, the opportunities you are giving me are endless. With the degree I will get from you, I can make a name for myself. I can support the family that I plan on having one day. I will never be dependent on someone else to support me thanks to you. So thank you for making me into the strong, independent person I always saw myself becoming.
Sincerely,
A Forever Grateful Student
