Dear best friend,
I remember the day we met in seventh grade. We were in the same homeroom. We had so much in common, but little did I know that you were about to become my best friend.
College is hard without you. We’re both so busy, but I understand why we don’t talk as much as we used to. At the end of the day, I know it’s going to be okay. We’ve made new friends and new memories. There are times where we will talk everyday throughout a week, but there are also times when I don’t hear from you for weeks at a time. Sometimes just one phone call can make up for a month of lost contact.
In high school, you were my savior. When you would warn me about a person, I listened to what you had to say, because let’s be real, you were probably right. We had a lot of the same friends, so making weekend plans was never difficult. If I had exciting news and you were busy, I would wait until you were available so that you would be the first to know. If I needed advice, I knew you always had the best advice. Of course I had other people to ask for advice, but you knew me best. You always knew what was best for me.
I miss those weekends in high school when we would go to Target and shop the clearance racks. I miss when we would go to Starbucks and talk about life for three hours. Sometimes, days like those helped me more than I would have admitted. You always gave the best advice when life became difficult.
I love that my family is your family and your family is mine. After being best friends for so many years, it’s not weird when we show up at each other’s houses without warning. There were some days back in high school when my parents asked where you were because we were always attached at the hip. I always laughed at them, but it was true. You’re basically the sister I never had.
Remember when you and I went snow tubing at Blue Mountain? Remember all of those middle school activity nights? Remember those high school football games and the four years of homecoming dances? Lastly, remember when you helped that boy ask me to senior prom? Remember when you gave him the courage to ask me to be his girlfriend? That was the start to one of the happiest chapters of my life thus far. To think that boy and I are still happy together makes me forever thankful. If you wouldn’t have helped him plan out everything, I do not think we would be where we are today.
Remember the day you found out that you got accepted into your dream school? When we were at the King of Prussia Mall with your mom and you screamed with excitement? I remember jumping up and down with you as people stared at us with confusion. We told them what was going on and they smiled and congratulated you. I remember that day so clearly. I’m so glad that I was able to share these great memories with you.
I love coming home for breaks, because I get to see my best friend again. We can always pick things right back up where we left off. We get to continue shopping the Target clearance racks and catch up at Starbucks. I love being able to share all of my new college stories and you tell me some of yours. Even if I seem disinterested, trust me, I really do like hearing about your new friends and your new experiences.
Thank you for everything you have done for me and I can’t wait until our next adventure.
Love your best friend,
Me
