Dear Kim Kardashian-West,
Can I call you Kim? Does that work for you? Hi, Kim. Hope all is well - congrats on your new baby! I'm sure pictures will be coming out soon.
Anyways, let me start by saying that this isn't a "hate mail" type of thing. I really try hard not to hate people in my everyday life, especially people who have really done nothing personal to me. I respect you, Kim (I hope we're on that level now).
I respect that you managed to work hard and squeeze yourself into the entertainment industry. Your name has become synonymous with "celebrity", and quickly, too. You revolutionized the personal app, had an extremely popular reality TV series, and you showed the world that girls with an ass can still be hot. So, I really appreciate that.
This letter, Kim, is honestly more like a plea. Our modern society is so strongly influenced by social media. I follow you on at least three social media platforms (hit me with the follow back if you want) and you have the second most followed Instagram account in the world. Needless to say, many eyes are on you at all times. I'm not sure if you realize, but you hold a lot of power.
You see, I'm very inspired by social change. With the advent of social media, I'm able to feel connected to people like Malala Yousafzai, Michelle Obama, Emma Watson, and other ridiculously strong women fighting for the rights of those who can't. I, like many others, have a lot of things to say. I have a voice that is rarely heard (although I must thank my roommates for listening to my feminist rants). But, Kim, you have a voice that is always heard. Every one of your moves is closely monitored by millions and millions of people.
So, here's my official plea - do something. Please, Kim, do anything. It doesn't have to be some kind of grandiose speech or donation. You don't even have to get off your couch. You could tweet to your followers to donate $5 to the charity of your choosing. If you did that, the charity would receive $192,565,870. And, none of that would even have to be your money!
If you aren't feeling like a charity, maybe make a video post to all your followers dealing with depression or negative body image. So many young people out there look to you for inspiration and if you told them that you're proud of them, it could mean the world to someone out there.
Kim, I know you have a lot of people expecting you to look or act or speak one way or another. I know you have a lot of people who will claim to hate you. I have no expectations, and no hatred whatsoever. In order to make this as painless as possible, I've included links to a range of charities. All you really have to do is copy and paste.
I implore you to make a change, Kim, for those who love you and look up to you. And, for those whose voices can't be heard.
If this gets to you, thank you for even reading it. I'm excited to see what you have in store.
Your friend, follower, and fan,
Emma Mallers
