High school is always an awkward time for any adolescent. You get thrown into a place where you need to start "acting your age", you can't be a kid anymore, but you aren't necessarily considered an adult. It's a very trying and confusing time, this is where mistakes are made, friendships are tested and life altering decisions come to light. There are times when I wish I could go back and change, tell my younger self things that would have made my life easier. Here are a few of them:
Dear Me,
You're absolutely beautiful. You don't believe it but you really are, and no I'm not talking about just the looks because even though you don't admit it you are a little bit vain, inside you are beautiful. You don't need confirmation from anyone.
You are a beast on the court. You always hesitate on the court, you need to be more confident in your skills because we both know you are a wonderful athlete just work on that confidence and you can achieve anything, trust me.
What they think, it shouldn't matter. Just because they're older than you it doesn't mean that their opinion is valid.Just because "that's what everyone is doing" doesn't mean its worth your time. What other people think of you should go through one ear and out the other, you don't need to spend time thinking about if you sounded okay or if you were too awkward about something. You're fine just do you.
Not all your friends will remain your friends by the time senior year comes and you know what, it is absolutely fine. Sometimes friends drift apart. You don't have to completely cut them out of your life, just say "Hi" to them whenever you see them, they were your friends once. Don't worry you'll make plenty of new friends later on.
Take a chill pill. Everything will fall into place, even though we both know you should have turned in your college applications earlier so you wouldn't spend the final days of high school freaking out about getting admitted. You shouldn't take certain things so seriously, some things are just temporary. But school and grades, focus on those because it makes your life so much more easier.
He isn't that great and just because they said you "weren't good enough" doesn't mean it is true. You are worth so much more then what people say. You may think it's the end of the world because you won't be with him but in the future you will surely cringe and what you thought would be an epic love story will end up being a humorous tale. He is definitely not your type and just because other people are dating don't feel pressured into dating too. Love yourself first.
Make yourself your first priority. If you can't love yourself first how are you supposed to attempt to love another person.
High-School isn't everything. From the wise words of one of my best friends "If you think High-school was the best four years of your life, you seriously need to reevaluate your life." - Karina Garcia-Covarrubias, what she said is true. You think its the most important thing of your life that what you do in high-school will stay with you. But honestly there is a 80% chance you won't see those people in your life besides reunions. Prom is just one night, graduation is just a day. Don't fret over these events they will fly by, enjoy the moment.
Everything happens for a reason. Tragedies do happen the closer you get to graduating and its OK. You have to keep going, it will hurt and be sad in that time but honestly they wouldn't have wanted you to dwell in the past, the what ifs or what could've been moments will come but nothing is your fault.
You're going to be an awesome person in the near future, you'll deal with heartaches from stupid boys and loved ones. Don't worry you will get into college and following your secret dream of writing. Things do get better.
Love,
A super awesome almost adult you.
