Dear High School Senior,

Graduation day, the day that you all have been waiting for over the course of the last 12 years is finally approaching. Looking back in time, graduating from middle school to becoming a freshman in high school seems like just yesterday, and it’s scary how fast time passes. I remember the transformation of starting off as a scared, tiny freshman trying to navigate my way around the school and finally, evolving into a much more confident high school graduate ready to endeavor college. Chances are, you will cry at your graduation ceremony out of happiness, sadness and relief. Everything you have worked hard for the last 12 years just paid off, and you are moving onto what may be some of the greatest and hardest times of your life. The summer of going into your freshman year of college is scary, yet so exciting. Just like that, you’re leaving the comfort of your family, friends and home; embarking off to a brand new place where you have the ability to build your future and form relationships with people who potentially will be your friends for life. Some may find it is inevitable to feel anxious and frightened while taking on this new chapter in their life, but once you get to college, it’s the most liberating feeling knowing that now, you have the power to make your own decisions and run your life the way you want to. The best is yet to come in college, so this summer take advantage and spend as much time with your hometown friends as you can, because it just may be the last time you are all together in the same place due to the fact college does change people. Don’t be surprised next year when you start to drift from people you would usually talk to on a daily basis. College is all about growing up, changing and finding yourself amongst thousands of kids all trying to, as well. Before finding yourself and making new experiences, make the best out of what home has to offer. Go on a spontaneous road trip, go to concerts, take pictures, go on a drive to watch the sunrise or just stay up late laughing and spending time with your friends. These are all examples of cliche summer activities, but appreciate these moments because time flies when you don’t want it to, and frankly, growing up and becoming a young adult isn’t fun. As much as high schoolers complain that they “hate their town and need to get out,” while at college, you sometimes miss the small aspects whether it’s your favorite restaurants, blasting music in the car with your best friends or even missing your dog and parents (though they nag you endlessly). Home becomes not only a place, but a feeling of closure and contentment. For now, do not stress over what is to come in the fall when you’re starting school, everything will fall into place when it’s supposed to. Don’t worry about establishing your major right away while signing up for classes at orientation, because you’re going to try so many different courses, ending up enjoying some and hating some in order to find your niche. This summer is going to go by quicker than you think, and soon you’ll be finalizing packing your bags, saying goodbye to everyone and driving around your town taking it all in one last time before you return in a few months. Lastly, thank your parents for all they have done for you too, and for giving you the chance to further explore your life and education away from home for the first time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
