Dear "Full House,"
With the upcoming launch of "Fuller House," I thought it was important to take a minute to thank you for everything you’ve taught me throughout the years. It is also worth mentioning how many times you made me laugh or put things into perspective for me. Being a '90s kid, I didn't get the luxury of growing up with the cast, however, I did grow up in the Tanner's living room via reruns or on the full series of DVDs my mom purchased.
Growing up, I began watching "Full House" when they aired reruns on Nick at Night. At first I was pretty upset because it replaced "The Cosby Show" during the 9 and 9:30 p.m. time slots. I quickly fell in love with the show and soon enough the cast became a part of my family. It felt as though
I could relate to the different situations facing the Tanner girls. The best part was how clean and family friendly it was to watch "Full House" (where the most action anyone got was kissing).
I have to say, I paid a little bit of extra attention to the episode where DJ turns 13 (and gets her first kiss). Aunt Becky had some pretty great relationship advice even back then. Speaking of relationships, I lived vicariously through DJ and Steve, Danny and Vicky and OF COURSE Jesse and Becky. I always loved weddings but Jesse and Aunt Becky's wedding was downright one of the most beautiful weddings I was ever invited to (on screen of course).
There were even times where I bawled watching episodes of the show. Like the time when Jesse moves into Aunt Becky's apartment after the wedding. Michelle gives Uncle Jesse her pig and the scene ends with Uncle Jesse crying outside of her room with the pig. Anyone else go through an entire box of tissues?
Danny was always like a father figure to me. I felt like if I made a mistake I didn't just disappoint my own parents, but Danny Tanner as well. He taught me a lot, though, like how it important it is to always tell the truth, and that family fun nights always come before boys, and especially how to keep a clean and tidy house, or room, at the time.
I wasn't always a die-hard fan of Disney (though it does hold a special place in my heart), but the Tanner family vacation to Disney world was awesome (especially when Danny proposes). My future engagement won't even be able to top that. Plus it was so nice to get a chance to vacation with the Tanners. Such a bonding experience.
Most of all, I love the lessons "Full House" taught me about growing up. Things like saying goodbye to a best friend, getting a driver's license, breaking up, getting a pet, and various other life lessons could be connected to "Full house," even Michelle's diet choices.
Dealing with conflict can always be resolved using a few different methods and choice phrases.
Oh and this one...
I feel like any kind of conflict I may face in life, a solution lies amongst one of those episodes. You became my family in the short amount of time and for a while it felt like I lost track of my family;
until now, because we get to watch as "Fuller House" picks up just where we left off. I can't say that I don't have some hopes for what happens with all my family (especially DJ and Steve). I don't know where life will take me, but I am very grateful to have fallen in love with "Full House." It made my childhood what it is today and without it, my life would have been just a little duller.
Love,
The '90s Kid
