An Open Letter To Everyone Turning 20

Because you're as old as you've ever been and as young as you'll ever be in this moment right now.

An Open Letter To Everyone Turning 20
Kylie DeGust

I remember when I was younger I thought everyone in their 20s were so cool and old. Now that I'm turning 20, I don't really feel old. Your 20s, at least the way I see it, is a time to be selfish and do whatever you want to do. This is one of the greatest times in your life, before marriage, kids, and other responsibilities like that. I see this as an opportunity to do whatever you've ever wanted to do in your life.

So, to everyone turning 20, embrace this time, and do whatever you want. Make a bucket list and try to do everything on it. Travel a lot while you still have time and see as much of the world as you can. Make a ton of friends from different backgrounds and places. Study abroad if you want to or change your major to get your dream job. Just do whatever you want to do before life gets in the way.

Everyone should be excited for this beautiful time in their lives. A lot of times I feel like we try to rush through life and we don't live in the moment. We're always wishing we were older or younger instead of just embracing what age we are. I think your 20s can be one of the greatest times of your life, but it's all in what you make of it. So, to everyone about to be 20 or in their 20s do something you've always wanted to do today, tomorrow, and the days after, because you're as old as you've ever been and as young as you'll ever be in this moment right now.

And the best thing about turning 20? Only 365 days until your 21st.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
