Dear Eating Disorders,
May I start by asking, on behalf of all human beings, to please go away. You're hurting too many people and I really don't appreciate it. You take the fun out of too many activities. You make women uncomfortable with their own bodies. They can't have confidence in themselves because you make them feel fat or unattractive and healthy. How could you do such a thing?
Now, Eating Disorders, you have to understand that a girl like me loves to eat good food. I enjoy eating out at fun restaurants and having a big breakfast everyday. My favorite type of food is Italian, and I like to take my friends out to dinner with me. But, you know what my friends see when I bring them around pasta? They see this:
Does that look very attractive to you? Cause if you ask me, I don't want to eat it now. And what about this?
Oh my god this is the pretty picture I have ever seen. I could devour this in 10 minutes for sure. But other women?
Stop it, Eating Disorders! You're taking the enjoyment out of tasty foods! You're making delicious meals seem repulsive. That's just not right!
And look at what you've started with social media. Girls follow these naturally beautiful models on Instagram and want to be them. You tell everyone that if they just lose weight they will be a model too! But, Eating Disorders, not every girl can be a model. My body shape isn't fit for strolling down the catwalk and making every outfit look perfect. You let girls think that if they just lose more weight they're going to be flawless. But with you, it's never enough. You can never just let a girl think she looks pretty, can you?
And for God's sake, Eating Disorders, you take all the fun out of going to the beach because you convince women they look horrendous in a swimsuit. I'm sorry we can't all be Victoria's Secret Models and look astonishing with minimal clothing on. You know you may not think I look good with just a bikini on, but darn it Eating Disorders I just want to enjoy myself on the beach. I want to lay out by the pool and get some nice tan lines without you reminding me that I've got a little extra fat on my body.
Plus you know what? You target girls who don't deserve your kind of trouble. You go after these women who are beautiful in their skin no matter what they look like. Women should love every freckle on their body, but you tell them there's too many. You tell them they aren't good enough. You're mean. You're vicious and rude.
You've hurt my friends long enough, Eating Disorders. I will do everything in my might to try and get you to go away. All the ladies in this world, and men too, are perfect just the way they are made. I do not appreciate you taking advantage of so many people and convincing them of something that is not true.
Eating Disorders, you've fooled me once, but never again. I'm smarter than you. I'm stronger than you. I'm beautiful no matter my size. Ladies, you look flawless in that little black dress even if it is an extra large. You don't need to wear a small to be beautiful, all you need is a smile. Happiness is the key, don't let Eating Disorders take that away from you.
Sincerely,
A Confident Girl.
