An Open Letter To My Brother's Girlfriend
Brandon Krone

To my big brother's girlfriend,

Coming into this relationship, I'm not sure you were truly aware that you had such big shoes to fill. There have been past girlfriends that I adored and some that I couldn't get rid of fast enough. When I heard that there was a new girl in the picture I had my worries, will I like her, will she like me, will she be good enough for my big brother? Nothing is scarier than knowing some girl is about to come into his life and potentially take him from me. I'll admit that I had my guard up and I'm sure that was obvious, but that's because he's not just my big brother. He is my protector, the guy who always has my back, someone who knows me better than I know myself, the one who picks me up when I'm down and who loves me no matter what I do or say. That guy is my best friend.

Growing up with a close relationship with my brother, there's nothing that I want more than to annoyingly be by his side any chance that I can get. In the past, there have been relationships that took him away from me and since I don't always share well, I was furious and broken-hearted at the same time. I was never included in anything and I was definitely a second thought. At times I felt like I was losing my brother and the relationship we had. Being a typical dramatic girl who overthinks EVERYTHING I thought of the dreaded future if he married her (thankfully they didn't last very long!). So when you started trying to include me and invite me to the things you two did together, I was completely caught off guard. It was such a simple gesture to you but yet, it meant the world to me and I can't thank you enough.

What I truly want to thank you the most for is loving my brother unconditionally. I know that might sound weird coming from me but I want nothing but happiness for him, and he has found that in you. Believe me when I say I know he can be a pain in the butt, he tends to forget everything, he can be quite stubborn and hardheaded, he rarely is on time to ANYTHING and it's like he purposefully tries to drive you crazy. But he loves you. I haven't seen him look at any other girl like he looks at you. I haven't seen him more proud of a girl than you, he could talk about you all day long. I've never seen him so willing to try new things for one girl. I've never seen him try as hard for a girl than he has for you. I've never seen him fall so hard for a girl until he met you. I haven't seen him this happy in forever. And I most definitely have never seen him completely change for a girl until he met you. Whether either of you will ever admit it, he has become a better person and that's because of you. You didn't ask him to change, he did it because he loves you and that's the sweetest thing I've ever seen.

You've made an impact on not only my brother but every person that you've met. I could not have asked for a more perfect addition to this far from normal family and we all adore everything about you. You're an amazing role model to me and the big sister that I've never had, that I can confide in about anything in the world. I'm sure I've embarrassed you both enough for one day but I just want you to know that I love you. Not only did I get to keep my brother as a best friend but I gained a new best friend (yes silly, that's you). And I have to admit, you two are the cutest couple I've ever seen.

With tons of love,

Your boyfriend's little sister

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
