This is a letter to those who liked someone who didn't reciprocate those feelings. I mean a person who liked another person, and the other person didn't like them back. First, let me express that I have been there. I understand what it feels like. The crush begins, and you are filled to the brim with excitement. Whenever you see that person, you get giddy -- and it makes each day filled with whimsical moments. But then you find out that they don't return your feelings. It's like being slapped in the face by a hand that just came out of a bucket of ice. You feel small. You feel foolish. You feel unloved.
I understand, and because of that, I want to tell you a story.
This is a story written by a guy named Luke. It's a story about two guys. The first guy is named Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus held the job of a tax collector. His job caused him to not be liked by anyone. His job was to take money from the Jews and give it to the Romans, whom the Jews hated. He played the middle man for the bully on the playground. No one liked him. Zacchaeus can relate to how we feel; he understands how it feels to feel unloved.
One day, a man came into the town where Zacchaeus lived. This man caused people to crowd the streets. Zacchaeus, being a short man, wanted to see the man that was coming to town. He climbed up a tree to see above the crowds. The man walking in the middle of the streets strolled by where Zacchaeus was. The man stopped by the tree. The man looked up into the tree and said, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today."
Let's pause here.
A man that everyone wanted to desperately see stops at the tree where the town's most hated man is, and wants to go to that man's house to hang out. What? How does that make sense? This is the kind of story that Disney would produce with only a good ending -- that must be what you're thinking. This can't be real a story, right? Well, no, this is a real story. This just another incredible act of Jesus's love. The man who called for Zacchaeus, an extremely hated man, is calling for you, too. You feel unloved just like Zacchaeus, but Jesus is waiting for you to hear His cry for you.
The person who didn't like you back would never be able to love you as much as Jesus. That person who you desperately have a crush on may never see you as more than just another girl or guy, but Jesus desperately wants to know you.
Luke 19:10 says, "For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost."
He loves you. He is calling your name. He wants to know you. Go to Him with your fresh heartbreak and let Him save you.
