Throughout all of human history animals have kept us humans company. They have stuck with us through the good, the bad, and the ugly times. Whether its a cat, dog, lizard, bird, or a fish, they have had a defining effect on the everyday lives of people everywhere. This is my open letter of appreciation to my pets, but this is for all the owners out there who love and cherish their little critters.
To my beloved pets,
I say, thank you. Thank you for always being there. Whether it's when I get home after a busy day, or three o'clock in the morning when I can't sleep, you are always there to greet me and comfort me with your snuggles and kisses. Thank you for paying attention to me and noticing me when no one else will. Thank you for keeping me warm when the whole world is cold. Sometimes it is hard to keep a smile on my face when life gets stressful. When I see your smiles I am reminded that I don't have it all so bad. I have a loyal companion who will love me and never judge me.
Thank you for entertaining me and keeping me on my toes with laughter. Whether you decided to make a funny sound that sounds like a "hello" or "I love you", or you decided to prance around proudly with a bow on your head; You have made me smile and laugh throughout all the years. You always put me in a good mood. I can never stay mad when I am around you.
Thank you for teaching me about responsibility. It is because of having you that I learned how important it is to maintain something and keep up with it. All those bath nights, feedings, walks, and brushings made me realize how much work it takes to take care of something, or someone I love. But you taught me that taking care of someone you love is a rewarding experience. It is because of you I realized that taking care of something, is a way of truly loving something.
Finally, thank you for showing me how precious life is. Somehow, the world never gets you down. You have so much energy and spirit, and I truly envy it. You always want to play, and you always keep going. You make life fun. More importantly, you make my life fun. When I see the way you live, and how happy and free you are, I realize that life is meant to be just that. Life is about being happy, and having the freedom to do so. I learned from you that in order to have a good life I need to put happiness and freedom first. But you will always be right after that on my list.
So thank you for everything you do. Thank you for showering me with love. Thank you for showing me what responsibility is and how important it is to maintain it. Thank you for reminding me of how precious life is, and that I should always stay positive. Thank you for being in my life.
