An Open Letter To My Big

Dear Big,

When I first joined the sorority, I had no idea who my Big was going to be and I was scared that no one would want me. I knew who you were, but didn't truly know you yet. But that changed quickly.

From the moment I met you, I knew you were going to be my Big. And I thank God that you are. The moment I found out that you were my Big, I was filled with an endless amount of joy. I knew from that day forward I was going to have a forever friend. And with that being said...

Thank you for being there for me from day one. You have been there for me through everything that freshman year of college had to throw at me. Even if it was trying to figure out what to eat for lunch that day, you helped me. Or if it was stressing over a test, you were there for me. No matter how big or how small the problem, you were there to talk me through it. You gave me the best advice anyone could ever give. You truly knew the right things to say at the right time. You never ceased to remind me that things could be a lot worse, and you never let me forget how truly blessed my life is.

Thank you for constantly encouraging me. When I doubt myself and think that there is no way I could do something, you are there to tell me that I am capable off anything that I put my mind to.You push me to not only do well in school, but to be a better person. You make me want to be a better person and you help me be that better person.

Thank you for being the best friend that I never knew I needed. Going into college, I thought I had all the friends that I needed, but I was very wrong. There was something missing. I just didn't know it until I met you. You filled a void that I never knew was there. You became someone that I truly need in my life.

Lastly, thank you for loving me. You didn't have to choose me to be your Little but I am honored that you did. I don't know what I would do without you in my life. I don't know how I have lived these past 19 years of my life without you, but I am beyond thankful that I have you now. So here is to a lifetime of friendship.

Love you long time.

Love,

Your Little

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
