Where do I even begin when it comes to my hometown. I have lived in Pompton Lakes my whole life, and I can definitely say that I never want to leave. When I walk through Pompton Lakes, I feel safe. I feel a sense of acceptance and love. The Pompton Pride is really shown throughout the community.

Not many people have heard of Pompton Lakes whenever I say where I'm from. Pompton Lakes is a very small town, but it has a big heart. In Pompton, there is a pizza place within walking distance of every corner of the town and as you walk down the strip, there are many different shops that you can walk into. Also Pompton Lakes is known for the famous Cardinal Cafe, which is the most hoppin diner in the whole town. They food is truly amazing!

Pompton Lakes High School was my second home. I never wanted to graduate high school. From the championship football team, to the school spirt flying through the halls, to the music department, which holds a dear place in my heart. Pompton Lakes has an amazing staff, with teachers and adminstration that really care about their students and their well being after high school. Every time I go back to visit PLHS, I always get a warm welcome from the principal, Dr. Przybylinski, as he goes "TL, it's good to see you!" It's truly a pleasure to walk into PLHS and seeing Dr. P.

Pompton Lakes always holds their annual Pompton Day! This year, it is being held on September 4th. Pompton Day is organized to celebreate the wonderful town that we live in. Many of the local business set up booths and sell either homemade jewerly or food. There are games and different sporting events that go on as well. The streets of Pompton Lakes are packed with warm faces and community pride. At the end of the event, they hold an annual firework celeberation.

Pompton Lakes is more than just a place where I live, it is a community where I want to raise my family when the time comes. I feel very safe in Pompton. Yes it is a small town, but Pompton has a full heart. Everyone in Pompton knows each other and is there to have their community members back when they need it. They are willing to help family members in need. The school systems in Pompton have been ranked as one of the best public schools in New Jersey, but a ranking doesn't even describe how well the teachers and the staff are at PLHS. Pompton Lakes is truly a town that needs to be shined on more. Not many people know about this little town, but it is a great town!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
