There has not been another day that I have looked forward to more. It almost seems as if my whole college life has been waiting in suspense for this day. This day sometimes felt like it would never come, and sometimes it felt like it was going to be tomorrow. No matter what, it could not have come soon enough.
I no longer have to get an ugly, and obvious, stamp on my hand whenever I enter a bar. Finally! I don't have to furiously scrub at the back of my hand the next morning before class to get it off so that my friends, or worse my professors, don't look down on me. No, instead I get a nice fluorescent wrist band that easily comes off with a snap.
I CAN BUY MY OWN DRINKS! Gone are the days that I have to wait for one of my friends to take some money and buy me my drinks. I feel bad for the first friend that turned 21 and had to buy all of our drinks. And, let's not even get started on trying get a guy to buy you a drink. They usually don't come free.
Most of my friends have already turned 21 and I am one of the last to go. It's really kind of a drag to go out with a group of your friends and be one of the only ones who have to wait to buy a drink. Also, it kind of sucks to not be able to buy a drink at dinner.
People will now consider me an actual adult. I can now gamble, buy alcohol, and have no restriction of where I can and can't go. I am now fully responsible for myself and that can come with some serious consequences. I am going to be graduating soon, and that means that I am going to have to get a job afterwards. It's okay if things don't fall into place immediately, they will eventually. It is okay to feel like you don't really know what you are doing in life.
Also, don't forget that being 21 hasn't changed me as a person, I am still me. There is nothing different about me except for my age. Also, don't judge any of my decisions, they are mine and mine alone. Above all, remember that being 21 means you have the ability to be whoever you want to be and that you have control of your own life. Now put on your drinking hats and let's go out!
