I recently saw a video from an award-winning singer that I follow on Facebook. The video focused on her going back to her hometown to talk to three young girls about the importance of sports, following their dreams and being healthy.

She conducted very simple one-on-one talks that focused on the girl's given sport and what they want out of life. Of course, this celebrity is promoting her new line of workout clothes, which is highlighted in this video because there always seems to be an agenda.

Regardless of the reason for the video, I was pleased to hear her telling these girls about the importance of teamwork and chasing your dreams. I was even more pleased to see how humble she appeared while walking through a pasture and running around a track. I realize that these things aren’t unheard of, but it seems that with fame comes an air of superiority.

As the video continued to play, I was amazed to see that there was a genuine interest in these young girls as well as their lives. And when the video came to an end, you could tell that the girls, as well as the celebrity, seemed to gain a whole new perspective about one another as well as the other person’s life.

I was very happy that I came across this video because I have often thought that she makes a good role model for teenage girls, or females of any age for that matter. This particular video proved to me that everything that I’ve thought about this young woman has been true. I watched her from the very beginning of her career and still follow her as much as possible. Her life reflects the girl that said that she wants to make her parents proud of her, but never wants them to be ashamed or embarrassed of her.

It seems that people are drawn to her for one reason or another. She sings and looks like an angel, which could be why her songs seem to fly to the top of the charts, which has shot her to a level of stardom that seems to surprise a lot of folks. She has won numerous awards and has plenty of accolades to add to her resume.

The most surprising thing about this woman and all of her fame is, she seems genuinely happy with her life, and even washes her own laundry. It is easy to see that fame has not gone to her head, as she lives a fairly normal life with her husband and child. She lives a life that many can only dream of living, but doesn’t seem phased by the fact that she is famous.

I intentionally didn’t name this celebrity because many celebrities have this same opportunity as millions of people watch their every move. I wrote about this particular person because of the life that she lives, a life that seems void of scandal, negative attention and comments that are better left unsaid. She may have made this video to increase her bottom line, but it was done tastefully and promoted an encouraging message. I have to believe that a 16-year-old girl sat and watched this video and thought "That could be me some day." I don’t like to think that the same 16-year-old watched as other famous people disrespect and show disdain for others that sacrifice an unimaginable amount of their lives for the good of mankind.

It is a hard pill to swallow to realize that the people who have so much influence over our youth take that responsibility so lightly. What if every celebrity took that to heart? Can you imagine what a different world we would live in? To have people, very rich people, invest in the lives of children maybe those with a little or a lot. It doesn’t mean that it will cost them anything but their time. It simply means that they have the capacity to think of and invest in someone besides themselves.

I guess this is a simple message, a message that encourages people to invest in someone’s life. It doesn’t take celebrity status, although that helps, to make a difference in the world. It just takes a willing person to take the time to think about someone else for a second, a day, or a month. Your investment in another’s life will be well worth the sacrifice and hopefully, they too will be topping the charts.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
