An Experience I'll Never Forget

People will always surprise you.

My best friend and I were entering our sophomore year of college and decided to get a random roommate, let's call her Marisa. We wanted to get to know her so we mixed up a batch of martinis and invited her to one of our soirƩes. The one thing we knew about her, she was always cooking. As the night grew sleepier, our laughter grew louder while our drinks became dry. The daily rumble of the neighbors deafening music started bleeding through the walls. We firmly asked them to stop countless time but apparently, their music has caused them to lose their hearing.

Marisa was a little more fed up than us, she started spitting out threads of what she would do if she had the chance. Those threats became way too real, way too fast. We went from us laughing to her pawing through her medicine cabinet. My best friend, let's call her Catie, glared at me blankly with her piercing green eyes as Marisa began to crush up the mysterious little blue pill with a spoon, so unperturbed.

She started going through the motions as it was a passed down ice cream sandwich recipe. Step one scoop the ice cream, step two stir the blue dust of unknown substance in and lastly add the cookies. At this point we realized this wasn't a joke anymore, she actually wanted to give the neighbors a "friendly snack". She was laughing the whole time and kept looking at us to chime in but we just stood there puzzled on what was going on.

The whole time I was hoping for a "haha guys I'm kidding let's pour another drink" but her somber stare told me otherwise. At this point, I knew I had to speak up and say something. I told her to back away from the ice cream in an almost humorous way to lighten the mood. Catie started laughing and at that moment I think Marisa realized she was being senseless. She let out a hoax of a laugh to hide her embarrassment. She started claiming she wasn't going to do it, "its just a harmless laxative". I will give her props for coming up with such a devious plan though. The childish part of me wanted to run up there myself and personally hand them the cookies, but if I was going to claim that I was an adult I suppose that means acting like one too.

This is when I realized that you are going to meet so many different people in college. I was so sheltered in high school that my mind wasn't open to new people. I mean she wasn't really gonna do it, right? All in all, that night turned out to be the best story we shared together. We eventually all become good friends and laugh about it still to this day. Even though we are friends, to this day I will still never eat any of her cookies.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
