An Apology To The World

We are destroying our home and each other and soon enough we will have no one and nowhere to live.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not. -Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

To the World, The Earth, Our home,

We as a race are destroying you, and I would like to apologize on behalf of (hopefully) us all.

I am sorry for ruining you, for taking your resources and making them weapons of mass destruction. I am sorry for making your once fertile grounds into war zones. I am sorry for blaming everything and everyone but ourselves. I am sorry for destroying this planet we live on and ruining it for our future generations. If we don't stop this soon, we will destroy whatever is left and we will destroy each other and I am sorry for that.

I am sorry for our protests that are for a good cause becoming another war in itself. I am sorry that these peaceful protests become violent. I am sorry we do not have great leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. or Mahatma Gandhi to help us. I am sorry we are fighting the people meant to protect us. And I am sorry that those same people are not protecting us. I am sorry that our government feels the need to stop these protests with military grade weapons and I am sorry that they are not accomplishing the desired outcome.

I am sorry that our great leaders are not honest. I am sorry that they lie to us, manipulate us and are deceitful. I am sorry that our world leaders cannot find a way to work together. I am sorry that in some nations they feel the need to fight against each other, instead of fighting together.

I am sorry that our justice system is failing us. I am sorry that women are not seen as victims of rape, and I am sorry that rape is even a word. I am sorry for the men who feel they can do whatever they want, and I am sorry for the judges who let them. I am sorry for the people who have been falsely accused and for the people who have not been properly punished.

I am sorry for the stereotypes we still seem to create and act on. I am sorry people are afraid to leave their house because of these stereotypes. I am sorry that nothing we do seems to be working. I am sorry racism exists and that it is still very much alive. I am sorry that people are hateful of others who are different from them. Wether it is race, religion, gender or sexuality, I am sorry for the hate we have caused. I am sorry that we are being divided even more so because of this.

I am sorry for the terrorists who feel the need to scare us every day. I am sorry that we are scared. I am sorry that our children will grow up in a world where this is 'normal'. I am sorry that this war does not seem to be ending. I am sorry we are considered the 'civilized' species. I am sorry we kill for sport and kill with hate. I am sorry we have become this way.

Most of all, I am sorry that this may never stop, and I am sorry we have failed you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
