An Almost Definitive List of My Family's Thanksgiving Palette

It's the most wonderful time of year once again: Thanksgiving. It's the day in which we're almost 110% bound to come to face to face with family members we're giddy to see and those of us we're absolutely dreading to see. Ill-fated family members aside, my favorite part of this gleeful holiday is the enormous amounts of food I'll be consuming, with or without my family to be honest. Below is a definitive list of what, hopefully, my family is planning to present me with after a long and strenuous few months of school I've had so far... clearly.

1. Turkey (or chicken).

Honestly whatever floats my dad's boat once the day comes because he's the king of the main course, with good reason.

2. The mashed potatoes.

Quite honestly, this is by far my favorite part of this glorious holiday. I don't know what it is exactly but I want to take a guess and say it's my ability to eat pounds of mashed potatoes and not feel a thing.

3. Green bean casserole.

Although this is a new incoming favorite of mine, it's pretty high up there on my list of 'Things I Can Eat Pounds and Pounds of On The Daily'.

4. Brussel Sprouts.

Yet another green I can easily eat on the daily and not feel a thing.

5. Mac n Cheeeeeeeeeese.

Based on the amount of emphasis I placed on 'cheese' above, it's clear this is my all time favorite part of the course during this holiday. Recently, I made a gigantic pan of mac n cheese using Almond milk - just some food for thought for you all.

6. Corn.

I'm not entirely too sure whether or not this is a normalcy for other households on Thanksgiving but if it's not, it should start becoming a thing tbh. Grilled Mexican street corn, or Elote, is my sister's handiwork and it's safe to say that I've never been more excited to see her than when she has.

7. Cornbread.

Not really one of my favorites but it seems to do rather well in my family so I know not to question it.

8. Stuffing.

One of the many things I've slowly but surely learned to love and there's no going back after it.

9. Anything cranberry related.

Not a fan in the slightest and if this is one of the things my family decides to present to me after months of crying over my classes, love is dead.

10. Wine.

Jk, my family is all American-Muslim so there will be no wine being served in the Rahman-Ahmed household.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
