If you gave me a choice between Christmas and Bid Day, I would tell you that’s an easy question. There is no doubt in my mind that I would choose the latter. Sure, St. Nick is great and all, but an old, fat man creeping his way into your house doesn’t compare to the gifts sorority women are given on that one special day every year. Nothing beats the feeling of your hard work paying off after hundreds of hours of practice. Witnessing groups of girls swarming your chapter is the absolute best feeling in the world. So sit back, relax (yeah right) and enjoy the countdown to Bid Day!
Three weeks to bid day: You are wearing blocks 24 hours a day, seven days a week to rep your chapter to all the Potential New Members. You wanted to sleep in this morning, but you know you need to look your absolute best if you’re going to be associated with your chapter.
Two weeks to bid day: Recruitment practices become your life and you could greet a PNM in your sleep. You know exactly how many days, hours, minutes and seconds are left until your disaffiliated sisters can run home! We just want our bigs, littles and BFF's back!
One week to bid day: Here’s where our love/hate relationship with recruitment begins. The pressure is on. You have worn all of your blocks at least three times and chances are you’ve had a handful of awkward encounters with PNMs.
Three days to bid day: After going through several rounds, you’ve found your rush crush and have begun to experience sleep deprivation. At this point, you could probably fall asleep standing up.
Two days to bid day: You finally got your voice back after losing it at the beginning of recruitment week, but you are 100 percent prepared to lose it again when all your new members run home.
One day to bid day: No sleep. None. Too excited. Can barely function. You lay awake in bed knowing full well that tomorrow is the best day of the year and that all the hard work each sister has put in throughout the week is going to pay off. You keep repeating “Lack of sleep, blistered feet and amazing new sisters at the end of the week”.
Three hours to bid day: You can’t wait to see who runs home to your chapter and tackle your no longer disaffiliated best friend to the ground in the most loving way possible.
Two hours to bid day: The chapter room is filled with countless collegiate members, all jittery from caffeine and you’ve all forgotten what it’s like to sit still because you’ve been bouncing off the walls for as long as you can remember.
One hour to bid day: Each sorority begins their journey to the Bid Day location. They continue chanting and yelling every step of the way. This might be the most exciting environment you’ve ever experienced. Soon spectators including fraternity men, alumna and PNM’s families file in to watch the event. Every sorority woman, along with the PNMs, begins to count down the minutes until the festivities begin.
Happy Bid Day ladies! Enjoy watching all your hard work pay off!
